Swansea City chairman, Hugh Jenkins, has revealed they opted not to engage Tottenham in a transfer bidding war for versatile midfielder; Gylfi Sigurdsson after Brendan Rodgers quit to become Liverpool manager. The move would have seen the Swans break the bank in order to fulfill Gylfi’s wage demands and Hugh Jenkins believes it was the right decision to make. “Gylfi was a signing that was on the cards when Brendan was with us,” Jenkins said. “Once Brendan decided to embark down a different route then that signing always looked unlikely. The bid was there but nothing has been discussed since; our focus was on bringing in the new manager. “The delay in signing Gylfi – probably three weeks – meant I believed it was the right thing not to push that signing. It was the right thing to wait and make a joint decision.” “It was left and Michael’s thoughts are with that sort of transfer fee we were about to commit to, with wages and fees involved, then it’s a general discussion on what else you can spend that money on. “Michael should be given the opportunity to look himself and make decisions on what he wants. He can stamp his own authority and own policy on players and the team. “Looking at Gylfi – and perhaps Steven Caulker – they were last year’s players, they did very well for us but time moves on. “We’re in a new era with Michael Laudrup in charge, it is Michael’s chance to consider the options and make the right decisions.” The capture of Sigurdsson is a reprieve to Spurs faithful who have been subjected to news of their best talents expressing their desire to jump ship in search of European football key among them being Croatian playmaker, Luca Modric. - Obed Nyakundi (The Kenyan DAILY POST)
Don't like the reference to Caulker. Hope we can do a deal with Spurs' new manager for another loan spell. It would solve one problem at a stroke.
Once ML, at 48, starts walzing around Monk and Tate in practice he'll soon realize that we need much better / younger talent. Caulker would be a great acquisition. Didn't Spurs just sign another, experienced central defender.
"The Kenyan Daily Post" ??? My god,Dragon, you really are scouring the globe for Swans' updates, fair play to you.
Ivor, if we can't sign him, then maybe Huw and Laudrup want to buy a CB, rather than wasting money on Loan market (Taylor?)............. 'UPPERBLAENALLY NEWS' sounds like a RedBluebird rag, Sorry Ffsdon!............. please log in to view this image
