    <grr>

    My wife and I are looking to get new windows and doors for our house, so I thought as I live in The Cotswolds, I would try and help out a Norfolk based company and get a quote from Anglian Home Improvements. Booked appointment for Wednesday morning with just the wife as I would be working. Bloke just called to say they were having a meeting Wednesday morning and that he wanted change appointment.

    So we started chatting and during said chat, I mentioned that the appointment would be with just my wife as I wouldn't be there. With this he told me that this wasn't acceptable and that they would only quote if we were both there!!! I asked why and he said "we wouldn't want to waste time and have to send another salesman out if you weren't told of all the facts from your wife" FACTS! We just want flippin' double glazing with patio doors and a new front door!

    He then asked what would be the main factors in our decision making process? I replied quality,style, when it can be done and price. His response made me slam the phone down - he said, wait for it.....

    If price is a factor behind your decision making, then clearly Anglian Home Improvements are not the company for you!!!!!!!!!

    <grr>

    Unbefuckinglievable.

    I would always recommend Castle Windows from Norwich, all the family have had stuff done by them, no money up front only when you are happy with the job, fairly reasonable as well. Don't know if they cover the Cotswold though!

    The reason, Carra, was that they want both of you there to sign the paperwork.

    Since he could tell he was fighting a losing battle he chose to insult you. <ok>

    if you really want to piss them off then get the salesman to drive all the way to your home and then ignore the front door... bear in mind that they'll phone before they leave the office <ok>

    We had Anglian put complete new DG, doors, guttering, fascias 18 months ago. Very happy with the product but within a month they phoned up to ask if we wanted any DG!
    We chose them over Safestyle who phoned me a fortnight ago and asked if I remembered their visit and could I remember what their quote had been at the time!

    The answer is DIY.

    I'm currently in the third week of trying to fit an IKEA kitchen in at my swamp.

    Admittedly most of the time has been spent at the local A+M unit but I can see light at the end of tunnel.

    One shelf is up but the electrical side has convinced me to take out life insurance.

    My granny before she died (bless her) had trouble with mixing up her words. One day when I popped over to visit her she said that a nice young man had been round wanting to replace her windows and doors. She then went onto say that he wanted to screw a conservative to her back door...! <laugh>

    You're a bit dim.

    Read my OP again, and this time read it all, especially the bit that said "With this he told me that this wasn't acceptable and that they would only QUOTE if we were both there"

    Knowing IKEA, I would check which one of them works first.

    (1) Are we to infer from this thread that the football at Portman Road is so dire at the moment that their support (all three of them) find it more interesting to discuss double-glazing. This could be turned into a useful alternative to the now cliched "worse than watching paint dry".

    (2) Maybe ciderman has the answer when he suggests DIY. Get your boots on jwm ......

    <cheers>

    That's as may be, but they DO want you both there to sign for a sale. The quote is just a pretext to some heavy selling.

    I get these people around every other week with that story. I just say the windows are those glassy things you can see. Just measure the ****ing things and put the quote through the door! <ok>

    we had some people round, i can't remember who exactly but one of the big companies; when we said we would think about their quote, the guy got on the phone and spoke to his "boss", then gave us a much cheaper price. we then said we were still thinking about it, and he got really pissed off and in a hump and left.

    *cavaet - this does not reflect the whole double glazing industry btw
