With Wolves and Birmingham both winning and the three around us all losing today this was an enormous three points! What Mick has pulled off here in such a short space of time is nothing short of incredible.
My congratulations go to all the Ipswich fans that have attended games home and away during the previous awful run. I guess some of the plastic fans will start returning now.
Great result today, well done to MM and the lads. At 1-0 I thought here we go again, but credit to the players for turning it around. Back to back wins will do us the world of good! Does anyone know how we played today?
I will include myself in that warky. But he's won me over. He has plenty of experience fighting and winning relegation battles. Optimism is on the up again. Is it too late to do a " reading".
Listening on Suffolk... The key moment was the inspired (as it turned out) tactical changes that Mick made in the second half. Once he made those changes we bossed the game and deserved to win and it should have been by more in the end. This shows how great Mick is in making changes that changed the whole complexion of the game. We were second best up to then and had no threat going foward. A hard fought win and a huge amount of credit must go to Mick for making those changes second half.
Sent Bradley Orr into CM, Edwards to RB, Drury off for Jet and Murphy on for Barnett and Chopra on for DJ later on
Let's look at what Mick has done to turn things around Big man/small man up front - DJ/Barnett DJ/Murphy Murphy/Chops A right back playing at right back Right/left footed CB pairing, including one who can head the ball. So what if Tommy's no good with his feet, he's a defender and needs to win balls in the air, if he was good with his feet he'd be a midfielder, right? Stuck with (rightly or wrongly) Henderson, in the name of a settled first eleven or maybe because he is better than Loach? A midfield with energy - N'daw/Hyam (I hope Reo doesn't get a look in anymore) Praises players in the press A mixture of long ball and passing it out from the back, meaning we are not constantly losing the ball in the centre of the park and having it come straight back at us. Any I have missed?
Nice summary of what he's up to Diego, I would just add astute tactical awareness of what can change a game round, strategic substitutions, and seemingly so far, good man-management skills.
I wondered what was going on as I thought we only had 1 CM on. Did he play JET on the wing?? Firstly great set of results, things are looking far far better now. First and foremost we look like a team and the players seem to have a bit of resiliance, the biggest thing I think we've missed under PJ's reign. I have to say I haven't been overly impressed with Orr at RB, did he do better in CM? Just a little thing (not to try and dampen spirits), just to put accross an argument. MM has been rightly praised, some of the things he has been praised for has been playing players in their correct positions, Edwards at RW and bringing in a RB, so now he's being praised for putting that RB into CM and putting Edwards back to RB, it clearly worked but anyone see the irony in this?? I think when we're in the acendancy Edwards is a very good attacking option at RB!! How did Barnett play?
I'd say the biggest thing he's brought to us is resiliance and organisation!! I think PJ tried run before he could walk under McCarthy firstly he's made us organised and resiliant and we can build on that!!
I am more than happy to be proven wrong, still cant stand the guy though, sometimes there are people you just cant take to and for me MM is one of them people!! Can't knock the footballing side of things though, onwards and upwards but please don't let amyone start talking about making the play offs!!
No play offs. Lets concentrate on getting up the table and to safety. Top 10 would be one hell of an achievement. We all know how tight this league is( been in it long enough). Lets get behind mick and the lads and revell in another win and the transformation that is occurring.
...and breathe easy (easier) again. Congrats on getting yourselves out of the cr@p. MMc's clearly more than just the new boss giving the team a temporary lift. Looked like some good tactical changes today. Has there been an "I told you so" from JWM yet?
A really good summary posted on TWTD http://www.twtd.co.uk/forum/247204/match-report-and-thoughts-after-bolton-game
I was only expecting defeat today so I was just hoping it wouldn’t be another embarrassing multi-goal slaughtering. The best thing for me is that the defensive unit, including our very own central defensive partnership of Chambers and Smith, were able to cope with a very good attack. Even conceded early without panicking and collapsing! A proper team again at last!
Have to agree there is a lot of irony in people praising MM for his tactical changes when had it been PJ it would have been considered the decision of a 'clown' which just goes to show how mad football can be. Though when you win, things can certainly be overlooked and if I'm honest I don't care if we play scotland at centre half and Tommy Smith on the wing if we keep winning I'll be happy, though it'll be interesting to see when we lose who will moan about MMs decisions in the way people use to about PJ....
