Not much history between these two clubs, but this is worth remembering: Division 1 In their third season in the top-tier, the team (Cardiff City) finished runners-up to Huddersfield Town due to a goal average difference of 0.024 drawing their final match 0–0 as club record goalscorer Len Davies missed a penalty! Not Junior Hoilett then? Barry Tiger to confirm! The great man Denis Law, played for them before joining Manchester United!
That is true - I was there. I remember the twenties well - two trips to Wembley. One pot of silver and a lucky black cat !
Huddersfield Town welcome back Aaron Mooy, who was absent for the birth of his son last weekend. Fellow midfielder Jonathan Hogg could feature after overcoming a hip issue, while Danny Williams and Mathias Jorgensen are also in contention. Cardiff City winger Junior Hoilett should be available despite being substituted against Newcastle because of a groin strain. John Toshack expect to get a start from the substitutes bench after a lengthy spell out injured. Midfielder Aron Gunnarsson is still out with a knee injury. At the risk of labelling an August match a 'six-pointer', both clubs will be well aware of just how important this game is. Huddersfield's season started against Chelsea and Manchester City so it was always possible - even probable - that they'd be approaching this match against Cardiff with no points on the board. Nevertheless, conceding nine goals in those two difficult games should be a worry. Cardiff have two Neil Etheridge penalty saves to thank for the fact that their start has not been worse. Neil Warnock returns to the club he managed in the mid-90s intent on taking some tangible reward into their next three league fixtures - against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City. Huddersfield Town head coach David Wagner: "Of course we wanted more out of the first two games. I think we played a good first half against Chelsea and against [Manchester] City we were second best - something we have to accept. "We have zero points from the first two games, but now we have a home game. "Cardiff are very good in their style and no one expected them to come up. Big, big credit to Neil [Warnock] and what he has done." Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock: "I don't think anyone would put money on us scoring at the moment if I'm honest. [Club owner] Vincent [Tan] wants [goalkeeper] Neil Etheridge to shoot more! "I watched Huddersfield last season, that night when they stayed up against Chelsea. Me and my lad were cheering them on, it was a great achievement. "During our own run-in [to last May's promotion] we looked at what they had done the year before and it gave us belief." This has got relegation ramifications written all over it. Two years ago this was a Championship game and both teams are going to be in for a massive struggle to stay out of the second tier. Prediction: 1-1 Lawro's full predictions v actors Idris Elba & Aml Ameen. Cardiff City have attempted 23 shots in the Premier League this season but are yet to hit the target Head-to-head Huddersfield's only win in the past 12 meetings was 1-0 at home in a Division Two game in 2003 (D2, L9). Cardiff are on a four-game winning streak against Huddersfield, including a 3-0 away victory during Huddersfield's promotion season in 2016-17. The Terriers have not faced Cardiff in a top-flight clash since they lost 2-1 at Leeds Road in February 1956. Huddersfield Town Huddersfield have won just once in 12 Premier League games: 1-0 at home to Watford in April (D4, L7). They could lose their opening three matches of a league campaign for the first time since 1992-93, when they were in the third tier. Huddersfield could equal a club record of four consecutive top-flight home defeats, set in 1935. The Terriers have failed to score in 22 of their 40 Premier League games - no side has a worse record since the start of last season. Town have scored just once in their last seven home matches in all competitions, despite attempting 98 shots. Cardiff City Cardiff have won just twice in 20 Premier League away fixtures (D4, L14), failing to score in 12 of those games. The last Cardiff player to score in the Premier League was Peter Whittingham in a 1-1 draw with Stoke City in April 2014. Neil Warnock has lost only twice in 12 league meetings against his former employers Huddersfield Town (W8, D2). Warnock has never been on the losing side in this fixture as a manager (W4, D2). He is unbeaten in his three league meetings with David Wagner.
A difficult game to call. The Udders will want to get on track as soon as possible. Their confidence will need a boost after the successive spankings given them by Man City and Chelsea. Whereas we have had two (comparatively) easy games with only one point to show for it. Will Camarasa be able to handle the grim north after only being in the UK for a short time? Arter will be more able to handle the severe weather up north even though he's used to the Bournemouth Riviera. No sunshade or sunglasses this weekend for those lads. Put the sun lotion away and don the winter woolies. Tights and mittens time for some... Having said that I think we'll come away with a hard earned 3 points.
I would like to see NW start with Zahore over the next few matches and let him get up to speed. I read that Neil said he will be rotating his strikeforce. IMO, Just leave Madine out of it and only use Ward if Zohore and Reid get injured. Think Zohore is our only long term possibly quality striker.
You could be right Temple, but it's a hard one to call. The thing with Madine and to a certain extent Ward is you know what you've got, whereas Zohore is really unknown territory. He has strength, skill and pace but rarely have we seen all three produced together. If he can get up to speed and put the complete package together he could be a huge force at the club. Maybe he needs a run to get there, but at what cost? At the moment we need goals and it's difficult to see where they're going to come from in open play. Step up Morro, Bamba and Co from set pieces and maybe that midfield 3 of Ralls, Arter and Camarasa need to get on the end of something, because up front at the moment we look out of our depth.
Taff FFS, have you not heard of climate change pal? Since you’ve been away it’s now called ‘The Huddersfield Riviera’....boiling!
NML replaces Hoilett - better defensively but need to be better going forward. Can Reid play on the right/left?
Maybe ML will be on for 60 minutes. I really don't think he's premiership pedigree. Great pace and tracking back. His runs are predictible and he's easily marshalled by defenders. Now go out and prove me wrong, please.
Don't see the point in having two wide men to cross the ball to a player who can't head it. Far better to play the channels with Reid and leave Murphy out there to provide the width on one side or the other. We have a different midfield now in Ralls, Arter and Camarasa who can play others in instead of lumping it from the back.
Anyway................ Despite that, just put 20 quid on us to win it @ 13/5 - I must be mad. Also 8 quid each on Morro and Manga to score anytime @ 10/1 and 16/1 respectively (good odds). In all honesty, that's the only way I can see us finding the net at the moment - genuinely hope I'm wrong on that but will be grateful if one of our CB's can oblige anyway........
Sounds like a bad injury for Mendez-Laing, stretchered off with a bent knee arghh! Holding their own after 36 mins!
