JOE LOLLEY is set to cap his fairytale rise at QPR today.

Huddersfield’s new signing has shot up nine divisions from the Midland Combination to the Championship in just eight months.

But Terriers boss Mark Robins insists he has no worries over throwing his new £250,000 striker straight in.

Lolley, 21, joined from Kidderminster this week, but last season he was playing for Littleton in football’s 10th tier.

“It’s a fairytale for Joe,” said Robins.

“He’s stepped up eight league in 18 months, it’s ridiculous. It’s like the film ‘When Saturday Comes’ that had Sean Bean in.

“He’s not looked out of place.

“Joe’s awestruck at times and I thought he was going to burst his lungs in the first training session but he’s coped with it and scored a couple of goals.

“He can’t quite believe he’s made the step but it doesn’t appear that way when he puts his boots on and I’m not frightened of throwing him in.”

Lolley’s week started well after signing off at Kidderminster with a goal to help dump Peterborough out of the FA Cup.

He is set for a place on the subs’ bench at Loftus Road.

James Vaughan has recovered from injury and will form a new partnership with record signing Nakhi Wells.

But Robins insists last season’s top scorer Vaughan is staying put for the time being.

He added: “There’s been nothing for James and nothing concrete for anyone.

“We’ll see things start to heat up in the next 10 days but I’m under no pressure to sell.

“That’s the beauty of having a stable board with a plan, we don’t just go scattergun and bring people in for the sake of it.

“There may even be another one coming in but it’s got to be right.”

Huddersfield have an excellent scouting system and aren't afraid to sign youngsters. Last year they signed Daniel Carr from my local team Dulwich Hamlet for £50,000, all the top Premier sides were after him but they didn't mess about and just like the Lolley signing stepped in with a decent cash deal for him. 19-year-old Carr is currently on loan at Fleetwood and already banging them in.

I really think Huddersfield could be dark horses for the play-offs this season and real contenders next season. Today's game will be no pushover...

I fear you are correct. Let's hope Harry and the lads have prepared well.

Indeed, it certainly was no cake walk for us today - Huddersfield played well in the 1st half and could easily have been in front - good move by them for the future to bring in two young up & coming strikers (Lolley & Wells) while we carry a couple of ex-Fulham duds on our books.
