Huddersfield new boy Joe Lolley's meteoric rise will continue today at QPR JOE LOLLEY is set to cap his fairytale rise at QPR today. But Terriers boss Mark Robins insists he has no worries over throwing his new £250,000 striker straight in. Lolley, 21, joined from Kidderminster this week, but last season he was playing for Littleton in footballâs 10th tier. âItâs a fairytale for Joe,â said Robins. âHeâs stepped up eight league in 18 months, itâs ridiculous. Itâs like the film âWhen Saturday Comesâ that had Sean Bean in. âHeâs not looked out of place. âJoeâs awestruck at times and I thought he was going to burst his lungs in the first training session but heâs coped with it and scored a couple of goals. âHe canât quite believe heâs made the step but it doesnât appear that way when he puts his boots on and Iâm not frightened of throwing him in.â joe lolley, lolley, qpr, queens park rangers, kidderminster harriers, huddersfield, mark robins, robinsBOY WONDER: Lolley has stepped up eight leagues in 18 months [GETTY] âHeâs stepped up eight league in 18 months, itâs ridiculousâ Mark Robins Lolleyâs week started well after signing off at Kidderminster with a goal to help dump Peterborough out of the FA Cup. He is set for a place on the subsâ bench at Loftus Road. James Vaughan has recovered from injury and will form a new partnership with record signing Nakhi Wells. But Robins insists last seasonâs top scorer Vaughan is staying put for the time being. He added: âThereâs been nothing for James and nothing concrete for anyone. âWeâll see things start to heat up in the next 10 days but Iâm under no pressure to sell. âThatâs the beauty of having a stable board with a plan, we donât just go scattergun and bring people in for the sake of it. âThere may even be another one coming in but itâs got to be right.â
Huddersfield have an excellent scouting system and aren't afraid to sign youngsters. Last year they signed Daniel Carr from my local team Dulwich Hamlet for £50,000, all the top Premier sides were after him but they didn't mess about and just like the Lolley signing stepped in with a decent cash deal for him. 19-year-old Carr is currently on loan at Fleetwood and already banging them in. I really think Huddersfield could be dark horses for the play-offs this season and real contenders next season. Today's game will be no pushover...
Indeed, it certainly was no cake walk for us today - Huddersfield played well in the 1st half and could easily have been in front - good move by them for the future to bring in two young up & coming strikers (Lolley & Wells) while we carry a couple of ex-Fulham duds on our books.
