    A decent read

The section where he mentions that he needs to sign players who 'won't follow the ones who aren't with us, they need to isolate them' is almost astonishing. It sounds like a classroom atmosphere at our training ground.

This week could be huge for the football club, and I predict we won't come into our own until September time when our squad is established and has a run of games.

This week is huge. And yet we're less than a week away and still our squad isn't settled. The comings and goings should have been sorted weeks ago. A good start in the first game is vital. And yet it looks like we're going to be putting out a team that largely was the one that was so woeful last season. Why are we still in this position with the new season less than a week away.

Again, I can't dis-agree with what he is saying but should he really be saying it, if he can't shift those players they may still have a roll to play.

As a perceived 'Happy Clapper' (Cheers, Flyer) what would you rather? But 11 new players again? Or ship a few out, bring a few in? I know I certainly prefer the latter and this is what is going on.

The best signing so far, in my view, is Steve McLaren. He will have a huge effect, but it will take time.

Calm down, people. The transfer market hasn't exactly been busy anywhere, has it?

Id have only bought players good enough to be 1st choice and I would have done it earlier.

So I would have gone for Simpson but not Dunne or Henry. I would also have bought 4 new forwards and told Zamora to get that operation and claimed on the insurance to pay his wages. 2 target men and 2 poachers.

Ah - I see! Just buy four players. It's so easy. Erm, who shall we have? Because they're clearly all available and no negotiation is needed. Plus there's no agents holding out for bigger offers and therefore bigger fees. I'm so naive I apologise. I can see why your so negative now....

    Rhodes, Austin, Le Fondre.

Are you really telling me we are struggling to get players because we wont pay the fees or wages, have you seen the amount of money weve wasted on utter crap?

I think HR has his targets undoubtedly and we can see that in bidding ~£5m for Hooper we are still prepared to pay. However, Phil Beard does the negotiation and let Hooper slip away, much to Harry's well-reported disappointment.

I think we will now see a change in emphasis with HR saying go get X from this Club, and get him within the fortnight..but as I said before, it's been a pretty quiet transfer window all round and we've been one of the busier teams. Henry wouldn't have been my choice but I'm not the Manager or Chief Exec. We shall see what pans out in the next week or so.

We still have many good players who, on their day, can boss the Championship. HR & SMcL have their work cut out to turn this into a team. I don't think we will see instant results but it will get better.

Well we managed it with a bunch of players on far bigger wages than them. Its what we should have done when we got promoted and they would have jumped at the chance except we went with ****e like SWP and Barton.

A good start is crucial in this division. And yet 6 days away from the opener and I still don't think Harry knows what his side his. Still unsure whether he's going to have Remy, Mbia, Barton, Adel etc. Other teams, like Reading and Norwich have done their business early, got players in, built a team and a system so why couldn't we manage it?

Problem is we'd have to pay way over the top to get Rhodes or LeFondre as I'm sure Blackburn and Reading wouldn't want to sell them anyway. Austin is our best bet but Burnley have offered him a new contract, I reckon it's 50/50 between us and Forest if he does want to move...

Rhodes went to Blackburn for £7m, we go Zamora for £4m. Rhodes is cheaper when you take into account the wages.
Le Fondre was signed for 350k.

It would be hard to get them now but i wanted Rhodes before blackburn signed him and our scouts should have been aware of Le Fondre.

Flyer, can I nominate you to be one of our scouts.

I genuinely think you would save the club 10 times your salary in any year.
