His choice to leave Leeds United. He wanted Premiership Football, but wasnt willing to fight for it with us past this season. Chose the £££ over the fans. **** HOWSON. MOT - BATES OUT!!!
Hard to blame Howson, he wants premiership football more than Leeds United do. Leeds United's policy on premier league football seems to be "it'd be a nice bonus" right now.
Howson - loyal servant, played his heart out for the club, Bates didn't seem to value that so Johnny had no alternative. Good luck lad, score loads and get into England squad so the £750k can turn into a bit more for Leeds
Didn't blame the club, said not renewing contract was him.interesting.?.perfect opportunity to blame club.Forget about him was never as good as he thinks he is.
Bates sees Premier League football as a nice bonus on a small investment rather than a necessity. Jonny Howson sees Premier League football as an absolute necessity.
He had more ambition than the club. It probably was his decision, but how much do you think he was offered? He clearly didn't think we were really going for promotion and the club accepting the bid shows they think the same.
I'm not bothered either way about Howson's own choice in the matter. I wouldn't applaud him because he said he's a Leeds fan and could comfortably live off 500 quid a week - I know I would if I got the privilege of captaining my own club, but I wouldn't boo him because he was offered well below the going rate by all accounts and leaving this sinking ship is the best thing for him personally, and highlights again how much we need Bates out.
I would never boo him. but **** him, hes gone, past, yesterday, old news, chose to play elsewhere...as pointed out above this was the perfect opportunity to say bates this Grayson that and lucas the kop cat touches kids....but he didnt, HIS CHOICE. Good Luck and all that knackers but if you aint with us...ur against us!!!!
Best of luck to Howson. I shall be watching Norwich (Leeds B) with more interest & hope he will do best.
Absolutely no-one should blame the boy. The club should have made sure his contract was signed a year ago. Why wasn't it? No idea, but a good guess might be that he wanted PL football and didn't see it coming soon enough. Can't blame him for being ambitious. He certainly couldn't rely on us getting promoted. Still think though that he should have spoken out as Captain, especially when he realised the upset that was being caused. I would have thought more of him. It's not as though the club would react by putting him out on loan like Parker, is it?
Read between the lines - Grayson said it was in the best interests of the club and Howson that he moved on. So why did we not sell Beckford in January? At the time Bates said we will keep our best players to the end of their contracts to help us win promotion, now its all change. Why? Bates doesn't believe we will get promotion this season. Howson would have come back nice and fresh for the run in, but £750k is obviously better than the now expected £90m if you get to the Prem. **** Bates, not Howson.
Seven hundred and fifty thousand Great British pounds sterling, rising to two million Great British pounds sterling based on various appearance-related clauses. De nada.
If Snoddy had gone there last summer it would have been Leeds a. Thats not to say he won't be heading there soon anyway
