According to Click Lancashire. I'd like to think he's loyal being a local lad, Leeds fan and all, but will our wage bracket really be high enough to keep an obviously talented Championship performer when Premiership clubs (albeit **** ones) are circling? If I were Howson, I'd be seriously evaluating whether Leeds United had a secure future under Bates and if Elland Road were the best place to keep on playing. Obviously the answer would be 'yes' for me since being a Leeds player would be a dream job, but do we really know it means so much to Howson?
If Howson goes you will know that there is a lack of ambition at the club. Lets face it, if Howson thought we would be going for promotion theres no way in hell he would consider leaving. leeds lad and product of the academy and club captain. Speculation just now, but if it happens then we will deffo know that the future under Bates isn't rosy
The club have said they're opening up contract talks, and he's been made the captain. I think he'll stay.
my grandads friend is his neighbour, and he says johnny is unhappy with the direction of the club with key players leaving. thats why hes stalling over the contract as negotiations opened up over a month ago. he says clayton being offered a long term contract would affect his decision
everyone always seems to know someone who knows someone who knows someone. i couldnt be more confident that howson will stay. 100%
Over rated but has a use within the squad and should not be allowed to walk out on a free or sold for peanuts.
Hardly over-rated. He's under-rated if anything, reading some of the comments on here. Most people are really harsh on him, despite some solid performances this season.
11 goals from Central Midfield and suddenly he's overrated! no wonder our players want to go when we treat them like sh!te. Same with Snodgrass, one or two dodgy games and he is suddenly a one season wonder, overrated, arrogant. Sometimes I really hate our fans, I really do.
bates knows the doors may shut on him soon ----he will sell all our best players and run with the money and say it was the owners we dont know about did it----------sounds about right to me
The English media is notorious for building athletes up too fast and for tearing them down even quicker. Is that English nature or have fans just become that way too? Serious psychological question, not a dig.
I think it's just a British thing. Look at how the NME will hype a band up as the best thing ever and then suddenly turn on them. Same with the whole "England will win the WC/EC" "England are the worst team in the world" situation.
Well it's been two and a half weeks since we opened talks with Howson and he's still not signed. Now he's fishing for a higher wage offer in the YEP. None of this comes as much of a surprise.
He's not pushing for a higher wage offer IMO, more seeking reassurance that we will be challenging for promotion this year, which, if we keep playing like we are, we definitely will be.
If we're looking to put him on a 4 year contract, there has to be at least a bit of an increase in his wages. Although we have cover for him (Nunez in particular), deciding to again not meet a player's wage demands would send out entirely the wrong signal, especially as he's club captain & has progressed through the ranks.
