I posted this under a Howard Webb thread. Having watched MOTD2 this morning and seen how Webb refereed that match I was seething. 1. Eto should have have been sent off. ETO made a knee high challenge in the early stages of the game and in the second half just took out Suarez in the penalty area right in front of Webb. Eto deserved at least two yellows as a minimum. 2. How Oscar stayed on the pitch when he jumped at Lucas towards the end was quite amazing. Lucas reacted and should have gone as well. Neither got booked????? 3. Terry should have conceded a penalty when he first pulled back Suarez and then climbed all over him to clear a ball in the box. ON MOTD2 they showed how ineffective Suarez and the only time he got away from Terry, Terry cynically brought him down. Not one word said to Terry and no yellow card. 4. Chelsea should also have had a pen when Lucas when in clumsily to Hazard, so much so he brought him down Quite appalling performance by Webb and all I ask for really is some consistency from referees. Mourino was hilarious saying Webb got alamost everything right but Chelski are the ones to complain for a clear cut pen for the Hazard incident, but would not complain as they won!!!!!!! Yes we have had some decisions go our way this season but the last two away games have been dreadful for the lads in my view and I just hope we get the rub of the green on Wednesday!
howard webb ..just wants a quite ,care free game ..with no incidents .that cannot happen in todays rules ... so basicly he dosent play by the rules so he shouldn't be a ref .. in my view a really poor ref ...anyone that allows kung fu kicks in world cup finals and stay on the pitch ...just shows how this man is just in the wrong job .. he does what the hell he wants ...
As is said elsewhere if Stoke had played the way Chelsea played we would have had 5 players left on the pitch!!! I was totally disgusted and Peter Coates on Talksport this morning got it right !
Really interesting because when I watched the game I thought that it was in total contrast to Atkinson who was itching to get his cards out and give a penalty! It seems Howard dud everything he could to keep all the players on the pitch and not give a penalty whereas Atkinson did everything he could to send someone off and give out game changing penalties! I'd love to be in a room when the head off refs reviews them.
We don't want to go on that Atkinson diet again, we lost two players last time. The pair of them should be sacked, yet again it seems that incompetence gets rewarded.
All I want is some consistency. You ax not tell me that the second booking for Whelan was justified! Did you see Rooney kick Huddlestone from behind? No booking. The things I have seen on TV the last few days makes Whelan ans Wilson look like saints!
Smithers I agree keep game flowing and try and keep players on the pitch. But there is a balance between the likes of Atkinson & Webb which the FA must find.
I have said this somewhere else's that I can see why our sending offs happened as per the letter of the law implementation of the rules. However, there was no nasty intent and no injuries so you would hope that the ref could use his bean and make a judgement that is fair and In keeping with game.
You beat me to it Cris I was going to mention Etto's challenge on here... That was a "nailed on" no nonsence red card. And Jose had the balls to say.. Suarez dived pft... 1. I hope to God that Twatkinson will NEVER ref another game of ours. I've not seen what the FA think, or said about him. 2. Things do NOT bloody even up over a season. IF you are playing a big club, they get the decisions. We've all see it far to often in the past. Bollux to ref's I just hope the lads are not cream crackered after the Spurs game. It's no wonder we used to have the attitude here at Stoke as fans was always. **** you we'll play how we want. Either way we seem to get the rough edge of most decisions.. I cant see why whelan got 2 yellows, the first one was dodgy the second one hes cliped his heels on the half way line, id love to read the rules stating that these 2 incidents warrant a sending off. Never in a million years
Happy new year to all, as for the argument consistency is the key, they should allow video evidence and sort it out properly, straight red for nasty challenges and diving and I include the engineered collisions in that for those that like to stick a leg out almost sideways to make sure they are brought down.
