This thought is inspired by Goldhawk with his well reasoned musings that Paladini might be looked back upon as more good than bad for QPR. Obviously I argued and didn’t concede that he may be right, but he did have a strong argument. So how will history look back at Ecclestone and Briatore at QPR. If you step far enough back, I think they will look pretty good. They bought the club when we were struggling in the Championship and on the verge of administration. 4 years later when they sold the club we were just starting in the Premier League and had one of the richest man in the world as an investor. Who can complain at that?
The history of The Goons at QPR is still a bit to close for comfort for me Roller. It's all a bit too soon for that sort of talk for me personally, maybe I've still got too much of a bitter taste in my mouth to give them credit. At the moment giving those gits any credit at all feels a little bit like acknowledging that under Mussolini the trains were more puntual.... Just doesn't feel right.
Reckon there'll be two versions: saviours of the world; and a couple of mega-rich numpties who could've done better. The page will come with an image featuring a close-up of Albert Steptoe sucking a lemon, with a giant Briatore in the background carrying arms full of little football managers he's drop kicking one by one into the sunset. Voila!
Lucky, lucky ,lucky, that Briatore ****ed off / Warnock became available. The first 3yrs of the 4 yr plan, they turned the club into something I hated, and again this Summer. Not good with words like Brixton, and it looks to have worked out well in the end, but them two gave me a headache.
History: If we don't recognise our past what chances our future?. I am very grateful they stepped in and saved us to be honest as we would have been playing Crawley Town competitively
Interesting responses so far. Kasper : the wound is still too fresh Brixton: trying to give a balanced answer, but I think that we all know what he really thinks Northolt: both guns blazing from the heart DaveThomas: honest appraisal of what may have happened without them All totally different opinions, what an eclectic bunch we are!
If they had stayed on we would have been playing Crawley Town, I am fed up with people saying thank you to those goons.
IMO they were a means to an end. this probably wont go down well with many supporters but they ( in a way ) raised the profile of the club and made us feel a little more secure than before. dont get me wrong, i am well happy theyve gone and we now ( it appears ) have someone at the helm who ACTUALLY cares about the club and its supporters. as i said, a means to an end. whats the usual line from a club when a manager or player leaves? " the club would like to thank Bernie and flav for their efforts and wish them all the best in their future endevours" we move on.
Palidini, thank you for your hard work and commitment. Thank you and good bye. Eccers. **** off. Flav. **** off and die in a rather painful way.
They came, hey helped us to survive, they didn't know what they were really getting involved with, they decided to sell and move on. Now if it gets turned into a film, can i suggest an umpa lumpa for Flav, a Boycie type character for Paladini, and Davros type character for Bernie...maybe I should have copy righted this....
harsh words loneranger, however if we look at the bigger picture. we got what we wanted, because of them or inspite of them, i dont really care. we are QPR, we ARE Premier league. thats the bottom line.
I'm in the "They did the right thing by buying into the club, and then blew it with the fans" brigade. During their tenure, the best thing Eccles did was to support Bhatia in bringing in NW, and the best thing Briatore did was to f*ck off to Italy after the revolving door management debacle...as for Paladini, I don't have such bad feelings for him, as Roller knows, but its good to see the end of his way of doing business at the club...
Hopefully they walk away with their reputations trashed. Club ownership, especially a prem club, is a prestigious thing and they duly fkd up because they had absolutely no idea. I couldn't think of a better cast for a geriatric version of Dumb and Dumber. Having said that, they walked away without making a tidy profit (if you believe the figures quoted in the papers) and I have to give them credit for that. I always thought, with the losses we were making year after year, they needed to sell for at least £40m just to break even. And by taking one up the wazoo they have left us in seemingly good hands. But....if we fail to sign anyone meaningful because we've run out of time (as a result of them pssing around) and we are relegated, they should never be forgiven, no matter what they've done for us in the past.
QPR are Premier league now, if we wish to stay that way, its time to act like a Premier league club. solid foundations, meaning, premier league quality owners, management and players. if we have these three ingrediants, let the good times roll.
Personally I think that the way that that this season ends up will define their tenure. If we stay up, they will have been a success, otherwise not.
If the new owners are everything they're cracked up to be then relegation surely won't be the end of the world, they will be building for the long term, and whilst it would be great to go from strength to strength and stay up and grow amoungst the elite, if they really mean business we will bounce back stronger and better prepared next time. I, however, believe we'll stay up Here's to the future!
'History isn't what happened. History is just what historians tell us'. I think that all the annoying things they did - treating fans 'like mushrooms' for example - will eventually be forgotten by neutrals, who will judge their time a success, the more so if we become an established premier league team. The two of them ignored supporters so completely that most of us will continue to hate them, however. I think they will become a case study on Business studies courses with a title like: 'how to lose fans and alienate real people'.. So, it depends whose history.
