what do you think of their first season? here's my view's on them De Gea: i have full respect to him, hats off to him, he got a strong character, he never let his head down even when Media were putting pressure on him and slating him for even a small mistake. he started the season shaky and he couldn't cope with crosses and handling in the box but that is understandable because he is new here, he came from Spain where you don't get ball crossed in as much as you do here. he did make silly error's and after the FA cup Liverpool game, the media was slating him and writing him off and calling him a "flop" but after the came at Chelsea when he made that save against Mata ( for my save of the season) had really got his confident up, from then on, he had made alot of VITAL and important and brilliant saves. he is only 21 for keeper's that is very very young, he is only going to get better, from this season, i can see him being the world's best shot-stopper in few years time. Phil Jones: he was great this season, he surprised everyone, he played in mid, he played in right-back and he played in defense, his work-rate is great, he never stops working hard, he fitted in to this club soo quickly, he doesn't even seem like a new member to our team.its a shame Injuries slowed down his form but came back fully fit towards the end of the season, made some great tackles or we could of lost more then 1-0 to city. was pleased with his reaction when City scored that late goal, he clearly has passion. he done good and he played alot of games this season then we including him( because he did admit he was surprised to play so many times) expected. Ashley Young: he has also been brilliant this season. great hard worker, scored some cracking goals this season. Like Phil Jones, it was a shame his form slowed down due to injuries he got in the mid stage of the season but came back stronger and became a vital player for our team. im really impressed with his link up play with Rooney. them both know each other's games. he confuses full-backs because he can use both feets and they don't know whether he's going to cross the ball in with his left or knock it down and run in the box or cross it with his right. ive been really impressed with them. also how about our January signing? Paul Scholes : i think we all know about him, his comeback was a turnaround in our season, he helped us alot, his contribution has been very VITAL, in our team, alot of rival fans laughed and said he's past it when he came back but he made them shut up. He is still the best passer in the league, his trademark long range passing is still the best. i remember against Chelsea he came on from the bench and played a key part in our comeback in that game and also in a game i don't remember which game but he made a fantastic long range curling pass out to Phill Jones, that pass was fantastic.
Still have doubts about Jones, don't know why but I hope he turns out great, Da Gea needs to bulk up and read corners better and possibly catch the ball more but that's digging holes maybe, Ash has been great and has slotted in nicely
De Gea as we all know wobbled early however i now have total faith in him after his improvements. The other two have been good. Nothing remarkable, but solid. Young has played well although remains our third best winger, while Jones has spent a lot of time being versitile and playing out of position. Which despite being a strength has meant we haven't seen the best of him.
Jones played more than we probably wanted him too but was generally good. He will only get better so good signs early in his United career. Young has been good for the most part, little qucik to go down and seemed to lose form on occasion but a great back up option for Nani on the left. De Gea, very impressed. For his age he is the best keeper in the league by miles. Started shakey but had the mental strength to get through it when more experienced keepers would crumble.
My view on their performances is similar to the ones listed above. A big plus for me has been their attitudes that they have shown, for different reasons though. De Gea has shown immense mental strength by coming back and performing brilliantly after a shaky period. He has also adapted to a new country and language, which is very impressive for such a young player. I think this season would have done him the world of good for the future, he won't go through too many tougher seasons in terms of overcoming difficult situations. Phil Jones has shown that he's a natural leader and has great determination and a passion to win at all cost. He will go on to become one of the most influential figures in the dressing room in future years and his attitude will rub off on all the younger players at the club. Ashley Young is the most established of the three so we would expect him to have a decent attitude/mentality. I've been impressed by his work rate and ability to make the difference in some big matches for us though. If you're a star for a team that's lower in the league (like Villa) and then move to a bigger club like United, you often see players struggling to adapt from being a prima donna to a regular squad player, and they tend to hide in the bigger games and not want the ball. Young has scored some cracking goals and set up some great ones for others, and is always working hard for the team (in defense and making himself available for a pass). I think these traits speak volumes for Fergie and the coaching staff's ability to go out and buy players with both the technical and mental ability to play for United, and fit well into the squad as a whole.
