I have posted before on here that I have often gone to non-league matches, particularly at Dulwich Hamlet, a club with a long and successful amateur history. A couple of years ago they were rescued from liquidation by a property company who bought the land on which their ground stands and proposed a redevelopment which would provide new flats on the prime site with a new football ground on adjacent land leased from Southwark Council.

All seemed to be going to plan only for the development to be blocked by the Council due to insufficient affordable housing in the scheme. After negotiations with the Council broke down, the property company, Meadow Residential withdrew funding for the club, then presented them with a tax bill, then claimed all the bar takings from match days and today topped the lot by informing the club it had trademarked the club's name and nickname ordered them to cease it's use immediately.

I thought at the time that it all sounded too good to be true and many other clubs have been shafted by greedy bastard property companies only intent on gaining prime sites by whatever means necessary. This one could run and run as some heavy hitters become involved on both sides. Here's some background on what's happened...

It will be very interesting to see what the FA make of all this, although I wouldn't hold my breath on anything helpful coming from them...
