Details listed in below article states that the best way to survive is to invest in players with previous PL experience though that seems to fly in the face of our ongoing transfer policy Can we buck the trend with a squad with limited PL experience or do we need to sign a few 'old heads' (in addition to the possible arrival of EG)? http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/505224996?-1881 'With just over five weeks remaining before the 2011-12 Premier League season gets underway, none of the three newcomers have done any business to truly inspire confidence in their ability to last longer than 12 months in the top-flight. There is plenty of time to act though and two basic strategies to consider: either signing guys with Premier League experience, a disadvantage being that they may have had unsuccessful spells higher up the ladder, and the alternative being to buy from abroad or the division that they have just left. The Spoiler rated the former as the safer if pricier policy, but tested both by looking at the last dozen promoted sides and the percentage of their summer purchases and loans that had appeared at least once in the top tier before. The results, as illustrated in the graph above with those that stayed up depicted in green and those that went straight back down shown in red, leaned in favour of capturing those already at home in the Premier League. Each club that gambled with 39% or fewer of their new additions having operated at that level previously were punished with relegation, while Burnleyâs figures are exaggerated by the arrival of the likes of Tyrone Mears (five games) and Richard Eckersley (two). The clearest advertisement for buying top-flight experience is provided by 2008-09, as West Brom started with the best squad but took too many risks, finishing bottom as Stoke and Hull survived by focussing their recruitment drive on Premier League stalwarts.' Any thoughts?
More than anything I think our style will be an asset to the premier league. We have a "no fear" approach which excites me for the up and coming season!
Our recent year on year success has been down to a transfer policy of signing players who suit our style. If we can continue to do this I'm confident we'll do okay. Statistics can be used to support an argument or point of view, but they count for nothing due to our unique manner of play. we'll buck the trend and survive regardless of where we buy our players, and suprise a few teams on the way.
That survey just focuses on teams that purchased premier league players or not, it doesn't factor in something that we will bring that will be unique, and that is our Spanish style of football, remember the Fulham cup game at the Liberty!! We'll be fine in my view............... please log in to view this image
Alexander is available on a free even though he is 39 i think would be worth a look even just for experience
That's like saying it's proven that apples are better for your health than oranges, so everyone should only eat apples. But what about pears, strawberries, etc. Perhaps they are even better. And perhaps a mixture is better still. Simplistic reports that offer either or solutions are usually seriously flawed and written by people with little understanding of what they are reporting on. What if Man U had more players with brown hair than other teams? Does that mean that we should start recruiting brown haired players, as they are obviously needed for success. Or perhaps BR should change his name to Alex Ferguson. After all, it's proven beyond any doubt that managers called Alex Ferguson do very well in the Premier League.
it just reiterates the fact that Derby had more premier league experienced players than 5 clubs who stayed up, but we all know what happened there, I have no concerns at all of us staying up!
im happy as buck has stated what is exactly what i have been saying all along that we need 3 or 4 experience premiership players to guide our players with no experience what life in the premiership is all about. you can bang on about wins against fulham, pompey and the like as they have no baring what we are about to face, we will be playing other clubs strongest sides and not like the second string in cup games, well said buck im with you all the way..
I have no worries about us staying up. If you look at the players Stoke brought in that season none of them had masses of experience but they provided what stoke thought was going to be a team plan to stay up....Olofinjana, Amdy Faye, Abdoulaye Faye, Ibrahim Sonko...brought in purely to be physical with teams IMHO as that worked then, given that 3 maybe even all of them are not there now and they have more 'footballers' in the side shows that what is needed in a team to stay up has changed since Soke were promoted 3 years ago
Am I missing something? Does this ignore the existing squad and only look at the players bought? So if a team only bought one player after promotion, that would be used for the graph, and any and all players bought beforehand ignored? Statistics...
