Commenting on a thread about school days brought to mind just how different things were back then, better or worse, who knows.

I said to MrRAW how I remember making an ash tray in metal work at school, an ash tray of all things.

On trips to Redcar, Seaburn or Scarborough it was the norm to see toddlers running around naked on the sand and splashing about in the sea, the parents would probably be arrested now.

We would drive free of seat belts, go to the pub, have a good few pints and provided we could walk, drive home.

Getting a good hiding was accepted and at school I more than once got the cane, one time 6 of the best on each hand.

We did not have *****philes but dirty old men existed and did not need to be old to be one.

You could not rape a woman if you married her, it was an husbands right to have sex on demand.

To be homosexual was a crime, they where Nancy boys but I have no idea who Nancy was.

Maybe the good old days were not all good after all.

Oh, and it always snowed in winter.

Thought everybody made ash trays at school!
Don't remember it snowing every year but a heavy frost was enough excuse to get the sledge out.
    Oh happy days!

Yes it was ash trays in metalwork although we were too young to smoke and book cases or magazine holders in woodwork although most of the lads hadn't quite got the hang of reading so they only looked at the pictures in those naughty magazines.

Thinking about it I never met a man brave enough to test this one.

 One of the best lines I've ever read on here, made me chuckle, probably not funny to anyone else.

Yeah it was just the other day/year. I remember my brother in law often drove a morris 1000 back from Newbottle club after a Saturday night with as many as could be squeezed in - and we all actually believed he drove better with a belly full of beer. !!!!!!!! ???????
Still back in the late 60's/early 70's you hardly met another car at 11:00pm.
    ps

We were ALL geordies then ;)
