The way we are dropping points especially at home is worring. Manchester City winning,Manchester United winning,Newcastle winning ,Tottenham winning and Arsenal also winning.I know it is too early in the season, but as a Liverpool fan come May do you think we are going to finish in the top four.? Please let us be sincere to ourselves. Comments:
It would be fair to say that I'm now officially concerned. I'm still hopeful, but we haven't come away with the points we should have from the last three, with the worst performance being the most recent. Two toughies next as well.
I'd say top 6 is where we are at still. some signings have not worked or have to not settled in anywhere near where we want them to be. All in all i think we've a decent back 5, a couple of good players like lucas, gerrard and suarez as well but the rest need to seriously step up to the plate. I don't think we are playing as a unit yet.
odds i would give on top 4 are Chelsea 1/4 on Spurs 1/3 on Arsenal 5/2 Liverpool 6/1 Bar 10/1 I think thats fairly accurate More injured than Owen, I think Enrique,Agger n Reina are top class too.Problem is other than Suarez( Gerrard is out), there isnt someone who regualarly creates/scores goals in the final 3rd, with £40m net spend we should aleady have bought this creative player in the summer ,we didnt. We rely on Suarez to break down the defense EVERY week
I started a thread a while ago about us being over-reliant on Suarez and got hammered for it! I think it's clear to see that every decent attack we start involves Suarez in one way or another. I dont think we should be classing Gerrard as one of a top class players - yes he has been amazing in the past but he hardly plays and we have not seen the top form he is capable. In terms of top class players in our squad, we have Reina, Agger, Enrique, Lucas and Suarez. We need to buy a striker in the summer - Carroll is still young and he will improve in time but we're expecting instant results from him. Let him settle and take the pressure off of him and let a fully experienced striker take over. I would Llorente or Mario Gomez (fat chance!). Also, we need to improve the midfield - central midfield is far too weak, Lucas and Adam are overrun and struggle to keep possession and the wingers don't have that spark to create anything out of nothing. In addition, our attacks are so slow its unreal. There is no pace in the side. I still have faith in Downing because he is a good player and if the likes of Carroll could actually finish, then Downing would have had a few assists by now.
If we keep hitting the woodwork and missing sitters, then the odds are pretty slim. If a small perccentage of those numerous chances start going in instead, then we've got a reasonable chance.
I don't think we will get top four, but I still HOPE we get top 4. I think if we are in touching distance come january and we are reasonably close to 3-4 place, I can see henry saying go buy a player/loan a player that can do it right now. Hence why there is probably a lot of truth in the tevez loan idea or even A. Johnson loan as City have the cover for those players now they can let them go off to a rival. Affelay is still out there who we have been linked too, a loan maybe would do him and us some good.
What I am going to say is, Arsenal started the season appallingly, but have now caught up with us and are now in the battle for 4th. Spurs also started with a couple of bad results. Our form has not been any where near as bas as Arsenals, and even though that raises the question 'how the hell could we let them catch up', it also proves we can also burst up the League with just a few consecutive good results. Think about how far we shot up in the second half of last season. In the end we were not to far off 4th, and this season we have started much better than last season, so another burst can do the job we need. We have also had more than the regular fair share of bad luck so far this season. But they always say that luck balances itself out over the course of the season. Finally, lets talk Newcastle. Sure, they are doing very well and are contenders it seems. But they do not have good squad depth. I'v seen many teams start seasons like Newcastle have, but in the end a lack of squad depth always gets the better of them from January onwards.
4 Points better , and that's picking up 1 point less at home in our first 6 games than our first 6 last season. This season: played 11 won 5 draws 4 lost 2 points 19 Last season: played 11 won 4 draws 3 lost 4 points 15 I see 40 million net being bandied about all over the place, Well that's 10 million net per extra point
When I watch Liverpool play this season I see opportunities all over the place. I see a defence that looks more solid than it had done for seasons. I see a bench that is full of possibilities rather than makeweights. Sure we have missed lots of chances to win matches, Stoke and Norwich stand out but even on Saturday Kuyt was only inches away fro being on side for the win. Add 7 points to where we are now and a different picture emerges. YES we do need to turn these opportunities into goals but we DO have the squad to make that happen. Forget about Spurs, Arsenal, etc. - let them take care of themselves! It's in our hands to win.
all well and good but sure why not go the whole hog and lets imagine we've won all our games, ah great look where we'd be top adding imaginary points is worthless , we are where we are
I'm with you Dave, but Saturday was disappointing in comparison to even the Noriwich game. It's no good hoping for other teams to trip up spuds or even Newcastle. We must sort our own house out and grab the bull by the horns.
Interesting perspective! extrapolate across the season and you'd end up with an additional 14 points @ £2.85m per point. Oh, and we finished 10 points off fourth last season so I guess it's about spot on. Add to this the oodles of chances we've created and missed and a potential slight uplift in finishing and subsequently, our form and all's to play for......sounds just about right to me! Just to point out that stats can be used in any way at this point of the season. It shouldn't be all doom and gloom!
It's not very realistic at all at the moment but thing's can change, I think we need to drop Carroll completley and play Bellamy or Kuyt instead of him then we need to either drop glen Johnson or play him right mid because his defending is totally pathetic, also for me Downing has been poor since he joined and he also need's to be dropped I would have Maxi on there or even give Sterling a go they can't do much worse than Downing is doing at the moment.
lol, but the here and now shows us on target to achieve 14 more points this season...no? Would you not be happy with that? I know where you are coming from though I think we just look at things from different perspectives
I think any one saying it looks unrealistic is being a bit over the top here. Who would you say our main rivals for 4th are? Spurs and Arsenal. Chelsea also have to be strongly considered even though they are also seen as major rivals to the top 3. We have 19 points, as do Arsenal. Spurs have 22, admittedly with a game in hand. They are joined on points with Chelsea who sit in 4th place. It is all very close. At the weekend we play Chelsea at home. If we win we will be joint on points with Chelsea, though we would have to win by 6 goals to climb above them. Newcastle are currently in 3rd place with 25 points and cannot be underestimated. But they have a small squad, so a very injuries could ruin their season, and with many games still to come they will have to be cautious of burn out. Things are very tight between 7th and 3rd. It will be hard. But its definitely possible.
Not a chance of 4th the way things are going at the moment. And if no europe i can see top players wanting out.
Seriously every one. Why are you talking like this? Do you think the United fans gave up on the title after the Man City, Liverpool and Stoke games? No! Arsenal, did you expect to see them this high up the League this early after the start they made? No! But they are. Newcastle! Did any one expect them to be even near the top 4 this season? No! They were looking in terrible shape all summer but managed to not let it bother them. Seriously, we have just as good a chance as Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea right now.
no chance! as long as kk sticks to his new british core, lfc is gonna go down - unfortunately. the ghost of maxi, meireles, jonjo, kuyt is hunting anfield. these were the guys that raised the game along side suarez to give kk the job. and what did he do after he was confirmed manager? ofcourse, he abandoned them!
