So recent news from the red socks is that on saturday they fired there head coach Terry Francona who took them to 2 world series victorys in 3 years after some 86year drought. Ok the team failed to make the playoffs this year and he had been with the red socks for nearly 10years and hasn't won a title since 2007. John Henry is obviously a winner and will accept nothing else, the question is what are his objectives for KK for the near future. I think for this season its clear that a CL spot is a must, but next season's targets are more unclear. I believe that KK will have to be in the top 4 from now on and either be challenging for the title or winning some tophies from next season in order to keep his job. John Henry's target is to take liverpool back to the top of the english game and will be ruthless if nescessary in order to do so. I love KK and thus want to give him as long as possible to turn the club around, but then i don't own the club. Would John Henry be right to fire him if he didn't make the champions league next year? http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/...john-henry-hospital-boat?INTCMP=ILCNETTXT3487 P.S hope your feeling better after your little mishap JH
I think JH knows enough about football now to know that long term managers are the best way to go. I can't see him firing Kenny soon if Kenny delivers some sort of result this season. I reckon a cup win + 5th place is the sort of target they've set for this season; with improvements each season.
well i suppose there's two ways of looking at this. 1. the guy who got the sack got a long time in the job and did deliver but is no longer delivering so a parting of the ways was required. This is natural and aligns which for example what Barcelona coach gaurdiola says about 3 years being the max. 2. the second way off looking at it is henry has targets in mind but in the end is a ruthless and demanding boss and thats why he has success. In short I see zero evidence of an abramovich style of interfering with decisions then taking coaches out on the say so of a few players. ergo i think kenny will get the time to do what he can. In the end if he cannot get us into the CL then he's not done his job legend and hero or no. Thats is not to say getting there in one year is the standard.
We don't know what TARGETS Kenny has been set by JWH but it is more than likely going to be a top 4 finish and a very good cup run - if he doesn't achieve this in his first full season I don't think he will be fired as we have a lot of new players who need to gel. I think the message will be progress - and this season that is finishing above 6th and looking to win a trophy.
