Would you cash in on him in January or would you resist all offers for him until the Summer depending on if we are promoted or not. A young lad who we picked up for £10k is being touted in the press as being worth £10 Million! What would you do if you were Marcus Evans?

I would resist all offers for him as he needs first team football and he will flourish with us rather than being a Chelsea reserve player. Mings has got huge potential and we should keep hold of our best players.

Firstly, i am absolutely astounded at this story (if it were true and not some spin doctoring by his old man)
Secondly, it is a rather tricky situation. On one had, it's a ludicrous amount of money for Mings and we should bite their hands off, if near the 10m mark. BUT - on an education level for the lad, he needs to stay in the championship for another 2 seasons to progress as a player (like Cresswell did)
Then there is the "sell him in JAnuary for near 10m, but have him loaned back for the remainder of the season" option. This then leaves Mick with a quandry...if so, he'll probably have a good few million to spend on players, which will bring the added baggage of possibly high wages. Do you then upset the current squad by paying an incoming player more than others? How long can we keep progressing if we are only looking for freebies?

That said, if i was MM, i'd want to keep him at the club, no matter.
If i was ME, i'd sell for the highest price above £8m.
If i was Ty - then i'd stay til the end of NEXT season at the earliest, and then see what the coo is.

    Great post Stretchy!

I think the lad would do well to have a word with a certain Connor Wickham... look how well that deal that turned out!

I can see the point both of you are making, but if we are in the position we are in now and that money could go towards strengthing the squad for the second half of the season, then I am all for it! remember, we could always get him back for another season after that to help him progress.

selfish I know, but the only interest I have is towards the good of ITFC!

If the lad's performances begin to suffer as a result of all this media speculation then of course I would sell him but I think Ty is a pretty sensible young man and he will be guided by Mick. It would be in our best interests and Ty's for him to stay put for at least another full season, he's only 21 after all!

What I find really amusing is the fact that our squad of unfancied and little known players all brought together for next to nothing is beginning to attract serious attention from the Premier League! So much for the budgies mocking us about how none of our players would even get into their first team! <laugh> I dont read much transfer speculation about any of theirs! <ok>

Personally, IF we are to sell Mings ( I'm not saying I especially want him to leave, just am not convinced by the hype but what do I know ) I would be DELIGHTED with ANYTHING above £4.5 mill personally.

I know that's a long way short of the apparent £10 mill TABLOID valuation, but right now I'm NOT convinced he's as special as is being touted.

Again, at Cardiff the last time I went he was perhaps our worst performer on the night.

What I LOVE though is we don't need to sell! We're actually getting transfer fees for players, unlike Macauley/ Norris/ Edwards/ Leadbitter going for zero. We're also not giving players away for nothing.

That said, IF Mings goes for anything like the crazy fees being touted West Ham robbed us blind for Cresswell, who as a left back is certainly twice the player MIngs currently is.

If he is such a fantastic Coach then why hasn't been employed by any Premier League team during the last 18 months? Its not as if there hasn't been that many vacancies!

Well Canary Dave I appear in the minority of not thinking he's worth anything like the value or hype, but if there is a topic, I will give an opinion.

How much, realistically, do you think you will get back from Ricky Van Wolswinkel then? Also, what %%% of the wages are you covering from his loan? Same with Bassong actually.

I'm with Guru, although it sounds bad I'm not really bothered if we sell him and he sits on somebody else's bench for the next couple of seasons. If the sale benefits us then I'm up for letting him go.
Keeping him doesn't guarantee promotion, nor does selling him but there are books to be balanced and to make anywhere in the 4/5M range or above for the price we paid for him is good business. We have a quality replacement in-house already with Parr.
Sadly the business side of running a football club comes above sentimentality or doing the right thing by the player these days.

Couldn't vote because my option is not there.
Sell for decent profit (whenever that is) would be how I cast my vote.

My response was aimed at the desperate duo Westy, you are usually one of the more positive posters, allegedly we will get 6M for RvW as for wages, I have no idea, same goes for Bassong, I think he's out of contract next Summer, so he'll be a freebie if anybody wants him!

Forgot to mention, if we sold him in Jan then I wouldn't really want him loaned back for any longer than the end of the season. I don't see the point in developing a player for another team. Obviously we are doing that with Williams but there is always an outside chance we could buy him. If we've just sold Tyrone that option isn't available.

Stretchy summed it up quite nicely and personally I find it hard to add much. Undoubtably clubs are watching him,10m is probably tabloid talk. But if he goes he's going as a bench warmer but he does get to progress around world class players and coaches. He stays,he plays and progresss by playing regular football and improving and maybe upping his value. If the offers come in it'll see where his priorities lie, lining his pockets or playing the game most of us would've given our right nut to play.
I hope he stays at least thru this and next season when we may be in the prem anyway.

Westy, you seem to be the only one, including many many top managers who don't rate Mings, you also keep bringing up the away day at Cardiff to back your view up, I might remind you that apart from Murphy there wasn't a Town player who got a rating of over 6 for that game on an alternative forum.
I like many had my doubts about Ty at the start of the season but with each passing week coupled with his run in the side I can see a massive improvement that as yet has not slowed down. This is clearly why he is being watched by so many clubs. For me he still has a lot to learn but already I prefer him over Cressy, don't get me wrong Cressy up to his departure was the one real stand out player over a period of time for us but this season many others are stepping up to the plate, long may that continue, I have no doubt that when we do eventually have to sell Ty we will get more for him than we did for the sale of Cressy!

I'm sorry but while Mings has potential, he's far far far from the finished article.

    - Often out of position.
    - How many assists has he created?
    - Probably the fact I've seen him live 8/9 times, and he's probably had one good half at Derby. He was very poor at Reading this season in the 1-0 loss.

I'll see what he's like again tomorrow. If he's like he was second half vs Derby 8/10 games for 90 minutes, then sure we have a fantastic player on our hands.

If anyone can tell me he's better than Cresswell right now I'd like to hear it!

I want him to do well/ us to do well of course and he is developing sure. I just am not convinced by all the hype, that's all.

Then again, I thought Josh Carson looked a real prospect ..............!

I agree Westy - i'm still not convinced with Mings. In fact, i thought Hewitt looked the far better prospect than Mings.
