Just how much is out of our league these days? If the right player became available say at a million, could we go for him or are we dealing at half that... tops? I am confused on this one!
I believe that if a player Malky wants and Malky thinks he is worth 1million becomes available, then that amount of money would not be a problem.
the highest fee we paid in the summer was £880k for miller, £750k for turner was the second highest, both players have been bargains, if the money isnt there to make signings of £2m or more then i'd rather we didnt risk our future, it seems £1m is our limit but there is more to a transfer than the fee alone, signing on fees, wages are also important, although we maybe havent shelled out big on transfer fees in the past, we have done on wages... good question though dom
One thing you can be certain of with MM is that we'll get value for money. He hasn't made one signing that hasn't improved the overall quality of the squad (though with only a dozen pros when he arrived that wasn't difficult). The frees have been excellent, those we paid for, superb. I think doing business during the summer is easier than January because of the length of the window and the volume of turnover of players. Most managers won't be looking to lose many players during January, only to add. Demand outstrips supply and the cost is inflated. Also, you don't get many players who's contracts run out in Jan, it's nearly always June. As a result MM has a dificult task ahead this month. One thing I'm sure of is that he won't panic buy. 1-3 quality signings (not premiership stars, but as good or better than what we have) to pad out the midfield will see us right. If MM wants 3 players at £500k each, I think he might get the backing to go for them. Nothing concrete, just a gut feel. He's always said that he wants another 2 transfer windows to finish his re-building though. The youngster's that are proving themselves are a welcome bonus though! Word is there are more in the pipeline. Jarvis has has a 1 year extension which suggests MM sees something in him. Also, Theo Wharton is expected to spend more time with the 1st team squad with a big future anticipated. As an extra question, how many of last season's squad would you want back with what you've seen this year? Bellemy goes without saying. Jay maybe, depending on attitude, Burke is probably as much of a miss as anyone, Matthews probably (word of a £4M transfer to Liverpool).
In other transfer news West Brom have apprantly made a 4 million bid for Whitts. Taken from the Mirror so no doubt it is an absolute FACT!!!
I reakon we have no more than 600,000k in the the kitty to spend and a lot depending on us getting to the CC final (50,000k finalist prize money and a quarter of the gate reciept 600,000k) so after tax in total if things go Cardiff's way a million so maybe two fee signings and a freebie or loanee.
