Another MOTM performance again yesterday, if he continues like this there will be people sniffing come January. If Matt Mills is worth £5.5m <doh> what would we be prepared to accept for "Dad"?

The one plus we have is that people (like some on here were/are) might be put off by his height.

Whatever, I just hope when he does leave (whenever that is), the fact we now have mega-rich owners will mean a repeat of Turnergate is off the cards.

The only thing that impacts on him is his size, good for us though as it means we might keep a great player for a bit longer than you would expect

If Mills was worth £5.5m, then Chester is worth £10m, but Mills was never worth anything like that much, so neither is Chester. I reckon anyone bidding would make a ****ty bid around £1m and would probably go up to £2m at a push, though if he carries on the way he's going and a Premier League are interested, it could easily jump by a million or two.

I want us to be a Stoke City or a Fulham.

Not in style of football, effective as they are, but in terms of hanging onto their best players. It just seems that when their players are linked with bigger Clubs, they always seem to end up keeping them. That can only be because they put over-nflated valuations on them because they are under no pressure to sell for financial reasons.

Smalling was probably the exception, but if Manchester United come calling, you don't say "No!"

EVERY player has his price, and if it was a big Club I wouldn't want to stand in his way, it just wouldn't be right.

However, when someone does come calling we should think of a number add a few zeros and then double it!!

Depends on the player's happiness though. I reckon under Pearson we could have kept the likes of Ricketts and Turner back in the day. It just happened that most of our players couldn't stand Browny and it showed when half of them hit out at him after departing. A player is twenty times more likely to stay at a club where he's 100% happy.

Slap a £2.5m price tag on Chester's head, that'd do me, considering we spent £300k on him less than a year ago.

We wouldn't get anywhere near his true value. I just hope nobody notices the fact that his height actually has no effect on his game whatsoever !

Similar type of player to Koscielny at Arsenal. Not brilliant in the air but something special on the floor... Reading the game, anticipating passes etc. Only thing is, he wont be so good in the PL, look at Koscielny, he looks pretty poor in games where teams attack through the air... It is no surprise his best game at Arsenal came against Barcelona.

I'd accept no lower than £3m for Chester though considering Arsenal paid over £8m for Koscielny.

Don't like this thread. Hate to even think about losing our best players when we are just starting to build a good team.

In actual fact the thread isn't really about James Chester, he is just the instance.

It's about transfer policy and what our approach will be when someone comes along for a player we want to keep rather than one who is surplus to requirements.

I hope James Chester matures into being where I believe he is destined to be which is the Captaincy of the club and to lead us into the Premiership. I hope he plays for us for many years to come.

Chester is a good player but lets not get carried away. "People who are put off by his height" that would be Alex Ferguson i would imagine and i arent arguing with him. He bought Smalling and now Jones who is younger than Chester and in the first team. Because of his height maybe people wont take a punt on him, which is good for us. But if i had a choice of Hobbs and Chester or Gerrard and Hudson, then its the latter every time. Not dismissing Chester but i dont get the ****fest!

I prefer the statistically best partnership of Gerrard and Chester.

There isn't a VVankfest as you say, simply a recognition of how good Chester is. If you don't understand why people think he is as good as he is and why he will get player of the season this year, perhaps you should watch him more closely.

Ooooh sorry i bow to your superior knowledge, you are another one like Theo who thinks he can see something others cant. Explain how Ferguson got rid of him smart arse and signed Jones and smalling instead then.

No, I don't think I'll bother. You seem to be able to criticise others (eg. "****fest") but unable to handle the inevitable reply. Not worth my time.

I will just take that as Fergie knows only slightly more than you then. ****fest isnt a criticism its saying you are going way over the top about a player. He is good, no doubt.

You really have no idea what you're talking about here.

Anyway, I actually think Chester has the potential to be a top Premier League defender. I like the comparison with Koscielny (although he's been ****e recently), you can see his comfort on the ball and his ariel ability isn't really diminished by his height.

Him and Gerrard made a fantastic partnership, but the pairing of Chester and Hobbs hasn't been too bad so far this season <ok>

Because Chester isn't Man Utd quality? Just because he isn't the next Rio Ferdinand doesn't mean he's ****.

I have no idea?? Explain. Fergie gets rid and signs Smalling and Jones. Jones is 19 and in the first team something Chester didnt do. A comparison with an Arsenal centre half isnt a ringing endorsement is it. I will state again Chester is a good player but people seem desperate to make out he is the greatest thing ever.
