If were not in a position where we need to sell, then we won't be held to ransom over any player. I'm the era of doomcaster I would imagine they would have cashed in on them but in all seriousness could you imagine mcnally and Lambert giving in to tuppence for our most valuable players. If certain players like Bennett and pilks carry on improving then the amount we signed them for will be a country mile away from what there worth now. Yes clubs will proberbly come calling but I think I know what the answer will be...

Ichb - when I say it's a bit of a worry, I mean if they improve so much that one of the 'big 4' came waving silly wages at them, who could blame them if they wanted to cash in on what is a very short playing career <ok>

They are all contracted to the club. I trust the management and board. None of them will go anywhere unless the transfer fee makes it the best thing for the club. Doesn't matter what wages are offered. The fee is the thing the club would need to wiegh up. Also, when in Jan the offer comes in. We would need time to spend that fee on a replacement.

The club is so well run now I have no worries on this score. Players move on, it happens, but if any do it will be because it was best for Norwich and an able replacement will be found.

Kenny, I agree with you that our squad is a very loyal one, but as someone recently pointed out, most ****-stirring is done by players' agents looking for a big wodge for themselves> <ok>

That was my point, they are contracted to the club. Doesn't matter what an agent or player says/wants. I know comments can unsettle player, but I think that is part of the reason that PL is so fussy about the 'type of character' he signs. Since PL has been at the club how many times have you heard of players wanting away?

It is not impossible for our players to be unsettled by agents or press reports, but I think it is less likely here. I think that kind of thing was part of the evaluation process before signing them.

"Likewise, there are a clutch of players – Russell Martin, David Fox, Tierney, Crofts – who arrived for a relative pittance; and they are all English – an added bonus in an era of ‘home-grown’ player quotas".

Martin is a Scottish international, Crofts is Welsh and Tierney is a possible call up for Republic of Ireland................................. All Lambert needs to do is mention Green, Marshall, Croft, Ashton, Eadie etc etc to put the fear of God into his boys....... There are not too many success stories from players that left us to further their own career... The canary ex player curse<ghost>

It shows what a great spotter of players Lambert is that every member of the first team squad would be worth more than we paid for them. Huge amounts more in the case of Tierney, Hoolahan, Johnson and Fox.

Not many other teams could say that

I'm not convinced that any of the players would want to leave in the Jan window, such is the siege mentality Lambert has instilled. Obviously its easy to say that, and then Man U come calling, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a whole host of offers turned down.

Real Madrid could use a decent L Back, £23Mil would be a conservative estimate:emoticon-0129-call:

I still hope we'll buy in January, unless training ground exercises on puttinhg the ball in the back of the net come good, and we start to take a much higher proportion of the chances we're making.

ffs, we are 9th in the premier League, we have scored in almost every game. Only 8 sides in the country have had a better start than us to the season. What exactly do you want?

There are 7 sides in the Premier League who have scored less than us and plenty who have scored only one or two more but conceded a lot more. We are certainly not struggling.

We are not going to be buying a striker capable of scoring 20+ goals in the premier league, not one who is known for this ability anyway. They would cost 20m+ and we simply cannot compete in that league. There are only 5 or 6 sides in this league who can afford such a player an as I have said before, we are not competing with those sides for laegue position. I honestly think we have planty of talent up front. It is a learning curve for all concerned in every position and so far they are all doing superbly. Imagine how good they will be for the second half of the season!

Reach for the nearest *** packet and scribble down some new numbers.

So how much do you think our starting XI against Man U would be worth in today's market?! I'm gonna give it a go using these numbers from this season's summer window as my benchmark values (obviously things like club position and length of time on contract will influence value, but I'm gonna go purely on talent and reputation) ...

Mikel Arteta £11m
Charles N’Zogbia £10m
Scott Dann £9m
Gael Clichy £8m
Jose Enrique £7m
Scott Parker £6m
Shane Long £5m
Danny Graham £4m
Gabriel Obertan £3m
Leroy Lita £2m
Shaun Maloney £1m

I only stated facts, but true, others have failed as the season progressed, Blackpool and Hull spring to mind but we have a history under PL of being stronger in the 2nd half of a season and that bodes well. In both our L1 and Champ seasons, the squad has been strengthened mid term, this has been done seamlessly and without 'big name' signings. I suspect this will happen again.

I think, with regards to players leaving, in our current situation they'd only really want to if a top 4-6 team came calling. Beyond them, I don't think anyone would be able to offer the wages or opportunities to pull a city player away. At the moment, they're in a good, happy, settled squad, who play for each other, and I don't think that mentality exists too much in the rest of the premier league.

Why would you WORRY Dave? Trust in the current board and management means believing that anything that happens will be in the best interests of Norwich City. But I do agree there's nothing like a good bit of worrying to provoke a lively thread ...... :emoticon-0105-wink:
