Yes i know the riches are abundant if we win the final but just wondering whats the financial gain of just getting in the playoff stage ........ Another spin of this was talked about in a pub in Crystal Palace after the game called The Black Sheep ,lol . How do teams servive in the Prem when you look at their home gates and what they have to pay out compared to the top Championship sides ,examples ..... swansea v Wolves ................19000 Southampton v Coventry .....32000 Wigan v Newcastle .........22000 West ham v Hull..........................35000 Stoke v Arsenal ...........27000 Brum v Reading ......................25000 We at home now are averaging 25000 and as seen when teams get promoted they increase their crowd so how many would be the average City gate ....30,000+ ?. JH
One factor is that gate receipts are only a small portion of the revenue stream. Whatever the revenue from the next 2 (possibly 3 games) it will be more than if we had missed out. Don't underestimate the intangibles associated with this either. Profile in the footballing world, confidence to the players, etc. Just happy that we are in the mix!
Same here. Cant wait for Thursday to come round. I am feeling quite confident about our chances, for a change !
John! As Remote implies, again it raises our profile. The BBC and others will be gushing all over us again as usual.
For Premiership clubs the gate receipts are a small part of their revenue - unless you are a Manyoo or Arsenal who can get 60,000+ a game. But even for these clubs the gate receipts are a small 'percentage' of their turnover. The fact that clubs like the Jacks, Wigan, Blackburn, QPR have to bumble along with attendances of around 20,000 is largely irrelevant. Last year QPR made a loss of £28 million - propped up by their wealthy owners. The Jacks made a loss of over £8 million. Most of their money now comes from Sky. (incidentally Manyoo take in more money with overseas shirt sales than we take in gate receipts for a year. As for the financial benefits of the play -offs: We'll get over 20,000 attending on Thursday, but just to balance out the students/ under 16's etc - say 20,000 on Thursday at an average of £20 each, that equals £400,000. Add TV money of (I think) over £120,000. Take away the poilicing costs, staff costs, taxes, and player bonus payments I'd be surprised if we made an outright profit of anywhere near £300,000 on the two games. However, that's a Joe Mason (not to be sniffed at!)
for what its worth the swans will have over 40m for this season you can add another 10 million for gate receipts on top of that figure, we will be gauranteed another 40 million for next season plus gate receipts, should we go down next season (hopefully not) we will then get 12.5m for the next 4 seasons unless we go straight back up of course. as you can see there are major monies to be made if you get promoted, and lets hope you can get a peice of the action next season.
Good luck chaps! Looking forward to Saints, Swansea and Cardiff in the Prem next season. (two local away games AND keeping the in-laws happy)
Whoah fella! Jumping the gun a bit there Brecon. We have two very tough playoff games ahead and are under no illusion how strong the Whammers are. It would be great to accomodate you at Wales most popular football stadium but we are currently focussed on the next game. Congratulations by the way on your promotion it was a fantastic achievement.
