The bigger teams are slipping up and there's no teams nailed on for specific positions, apart from Sunderland and Palace. The bigguns are slipping up under pressure due to change in management, and more and more points will leak from the bigger grounds this season.

A lot of sides have quality in their teams and systems that are getting points, but there's slip ups. We only won 2 away games last season and we already have that amount this season. We achieve good wins away to Villa and Cardiff yet allow ourselves to get spanked off Hull at home.

Personally, I think this season may require a side to have 43/44 pts in order to survive. Norwich are in the bottom 3 now ffs! They're a decent side! I know it's still early, but it looks like an open season when it comes to the title, and all the teams below the top 7 and above the bottom 2 look quite even. There's no significant gap in performances, if not quality. Sunderland and Palace look certainties for relegation. I don't see Sunderland getting the points required over the next 30 games, and Palace just don't have the quality in the final third to convince me. Jerome and that lanky twat from Arsenal.

I'm personally a bit excited. We have done well on the road so far, in a manner of speaking. Yeah, we got raped off City, but that was to be expected. We claimed two good wins vs Villa and Cardiff, and we scored two goals at Goodison park and it could have been more. We've looked deadly in some of our attacking play, and we have a striker bang in form, and looks like he can finish just as good as anyone.

I don't think it will be high at all. Recent seasons have seen the League split into two mini leagues top 7 and the rest of the league. Think this year will see three mini leagues. My lot and Palace are struggling, it only takes one more team to be cut adrift and stop picking up points to make a low points total to achieve safety. I'll say 33-36 points for safety.

I dont think Sunderland are nailed on to go down. a new manager could totally revive them, they are not a bad team, they are just on a bad run. Palace are out of their depth however.

Sunderland aren't that bad, they just really want their record back. Its been the best thing about the season so far watching them trying to get points. The whole PDC implosion was brilliant. Hero to zero in less than 6 months <laugh> In all seriousness though, once they get Fletcher back they'll pick up points. Natural goalscorer. Wouldn't mind him if they did go down and we survive.

Long way to. Can't see much hope for Palace but you never know. I think Remy might keep us up.

Look at our home games this side of christmas compared to the other side of christmas. Second half of the season could be very different to the first for us. The right appointment and we should be fine. The wrong appointment then it's our turn to be relegated... Again.

Well if it carries on like it's going it'll be a low points tally for the champions and a low tally for safety, with goal difference being vital.

Could be the difference between just saving yourself from the drop and grabbing Europa qualification...

Crazy league but it is still taking shape.

Yeah it'll get better for you, still early days for everyone.

It's that thing of perhaps banking on what you say and leaving too much to do too late which could apply added pressure for games you'd hope to pick points from.

New manager will come in and sort it, within two wins or even just claim the derby spoils and it'll be what was all the fuss about?

I wouldn't go off whats on paper though. If you did that you'd think there is a good chance of Sunderland getting Dec 21 with only 1 point. If that was the case they'd be long gone. The 2nd half of the season would be a write off regardless of fixtures as confidence would be destroyed. The most winnable home game between now and then is the derby. Your record in home derbies and fickle nature of them makes it a lottery.

5 pts separate 5th Man C and 14th Cardiff at the moment.

A lot to play for, for everybody.

I agree with the mini-league prediction. On Football Manager, what pisses me off is that after two seasons, the top clubs accelerate away, and the bottom clubs perpetually compete for record low points hauls. This means to win the league, you need many more points than is realistic, and to stay up you're competing with max 2 clubs, with two dead certs for the drop who get humped by everyone.

In real life, the top clubs are losing more regularly lower placed teams, so I expect the winner of the league to have relatively few (closer to the 75 points total that once won United the league, maybe 79), meaning more points up for grabs for 6th-20th, and as the likes of Crystal Palace and Cardiff will struggle, the shift in median will mean clubs need more points than ever in the midfield scrammash. Traditionally 8th place is guaranteed with around 53 points, but I think that total could possibly net you as low as 11th this year. I think the top relegated side will have around the 42 point mark, with the closest escapologist on 44, and the two worst teams barely getting out of the twenties...

I know you can't go on paper but we're half way through the hardest run of home game any club has ever had to endure(surely). I'll be glad when they're done with.

    Arsenal
    Liverpool
    ManU
    Newcastle
    Man City
    Chelsea
    Tottenham
    (in that order)
If you had that run of home games you'd be as relieved as I will be once they're out the way. We've got to start picking up points. A few wins away and couple of draws or a cheeky win at home and we won't be too far out or reach, the right appointment should see us get that and then we can push on and fight relegation with an actual hope.

Yeah that's a tough draw but are there any easy, banker home wins in this league at the minute? Could be that points will come in the ones you least expect, which I'm not counting Newcastle in obviously as that's highly winnable...

Theoretically the minimum number of points to stay up is 0 (depending on goal difference). And, I think, the minimum number of points to guarantee safety is 66. (This is based upon the most extreme cases at the beginning of the season).

Right now the lowest number of points to avoid relegation is 7, depending on goal difference. This of course will change as the season continues. I think it's going to be around the 39 mark.

This will now be followed by Tash telling you to "stfu" because you haven't answered his question as he'd like. I'd like to recommend a "kmsb" or "nmhd" in response.
