I was looking at previous seasons and the average points total for premier league survival (if we're 1 point above the team in 18th) for all the seasons since there have been 20 teams.

The magic number came out at 37.4 points.

I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I don't think we'll need 40pts to stay up, but don't tell the players that!

because the premiership is the weakest ever then 35 points is a possibility but we should aim for 40 pts to make sure and we are on course for that tally anyway.......we will be fine

I know it looks bad Dai, but when I was looking at the point totals to get that figure, some seasons it would have been as low as 31 points to survive.

I agree that we should be aiming for at least 40, but I really think 37 will be enough this season.

36 might do the trick this season although the bottom teams had a pretty fair weekend

We're 5 points above the relegation spots now. We have to aim to be 7 points ahead of the 18th placed team with 2 games to go, whatever that amount of points may be. Obviously, 40 is the ball park figure, but nobody really knows whether that will be enough or not. We should plan to stay at arms length because once you get dragged into the 'relegation dogfight', points are much harder to come by.

big kidderz if you look at the 4 fixtures before our last two, you'll see Bolton, Blackburn, Wolves and i think QPR. Big games!

Yeah, I saw that too. Huge games. If we take 9 points from those three, it'll be a big blow to those rivals in the relegation battle.

Wow, massive games! With any luck, we'll be nicely placed in mid-table with plenty of points in the bank by the time those games roll round. But the reality is that those games will probably define our season! We're going to have to win at places like Sunderland, Fulham and get wins at home to teams like Norwich and Everton if we're going to take the pressure off those end of season games!

That is a seriously meaty set of fixtures! All of those teams could have their relegation prospects worsened by losing to us...

I agree 40 pts should be the target but I have a feeling that 4 more wins and 6 draws will see us home. Rhys is right though our crunch time will be the four games away against QPR and Bolton and home to Blackburn and Wolves. 8 points from these and we will be fine but it will be highly likely that these teams will be fighting for their Premiership lives. So lets play safe and get the home wins against Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea :)

I think 40 pts will be enough. But will say we can get at least 45+ pts.

After seeing us play today it is not an issue. "WE ARE STAYING UP, WE ARE STAYING UP!"
