Huddersfield are 5pts in front of us with 6 games left.
We have 9 games and need to gain 5 points more than them. Sounds easy but is it?

Terriers games:
Peterborough (H) Win
Charlton (A) Draw
MK Dons (A) Lose
Dag & Red (H) Win
Brighton (A) Lose
Brentford (H) Win

Saints games:
Charlton (H) Win
Leyton Orient (A) Draw
Rochdale (A) Draw
Bristol Rovers (H) Win
Brighton (A) Lose
Hartlepool (H) Win
Brentford (A) Draw
Plymouth (A) Win
Walsall (H)Win

I think we will probably need around 86 points. Can't see Huddersfield getting more than that. That would leave us needing 18 points from our last 9 games which is very achievable as we SHOULD win all our remaining home games but knowing us we will slip up on at least one of them.

17 more points. End of. Copied from Saints Web before the start of the Dons game:

'I see a reasonable target for Southampton's last ten games as 20 points. This is what you have managed to achieve this season if the first six matches (4 points from 6 games) are discounted. Looking at the remaining fixtures, six wins, two draws, and two defeats seems entirely achievable.

If you make this total you are almost certain to finish second. Only four teams could possibly beat you. If we make the entirely reasonable assumption that you keep your superior goal difference,

1. Bournemouth would need 24 points from 8 games (ie to win them all), or
2. Milton Keynes would need 21 points from 7 games (ie to win them all), or
3. Peterborough would need 20 points from 8 games - this means winning at least 7 games, or winning six and losing none (and they still have away games away against three of the top eight teams - Huddersfield, Leyton Orient and Rochdale - as well as a home game against Bournemouth), or
4. Huddersfield would need 16 points from 7 games - this means winning at least five games, and losing not more than one (and they still have to play Peterborough at home, and Milton Keynes and Brighton away). '

I think I predicted an 84 point total which to be honest I think is going to be needed for the Auto's.

That's another 3 points in the bag. Eight games left, 19 pts guarentees 2nd place meaning we can afford to lose one and draw one. Still a tough 'ask', but every point the Udders drop makes our target easier.

All we have to do is match the teams around us and get our average points for the games in hand......Simples. We truly have put the pressure on Hudders now. They will constantly be looking over their shoulders. The first thing we need to do then is to create a gap between us and Posh. In theory all we need from the two in hand is draws and match all other results. We cannot afford to waste those games in hand that is for sure.
