Funny piece where #7 couldn't be more spot on Nice mention in #1 as well, well done lads -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Olympic Games in London have been a roaring success, prompting some critics such as writer Hunter Davies to suggest that not "since 1888, when the first football league started, have our pro players been so utterly embarrassed, humiliated and shown up [by the Olympics]". For some people, however, all the rowing, cycling and horsie golds in the world won't replace football as the sport to watch and the withdrawal symptoms kicked in as soon as Euro 2012 finished. How many of these pre-season side effects have you been suffering from? 1) You've been to watch a rubbish pre-season friendly A classic symptom of football hunger, which sees the likes of QPR take 3,000 away to Wycombe. 2) You've dusted off your football DVD collection Saturday afternoon free? No problem, just crack open that 2002/03 end of season review. 3) Watching MLS through the night seems like a good idea Columbus Crew v LA Galaxy at 1am? Brilliant! 4) Transfer speculation has become like oxygen In the absence of any real matches and with the transfer window open, we all need our fix of transfer gossip. 5) You've found yourself dReading the prospect of summer 2013 It's been bad enough the last few weeks, but at least we had Euro 2012 to tide us over this year, but when the 2012/13 campaign comes to a close it will be one of those dreaded stretches without any Euros or World Cup. 6) Beach football? I'll watch that! Let's be frank, beach football is absolutely rubbish, but in the absence of proper football we'll happily flick on Eurosport 7 and watch Brazil beat whoever. 7) You'll discuss really unimportant stuff on football forums Suddenly the issue of a reserve player's contract extension becomes worthy of discussion (not to mention a breaking news banner on Sky Sports). 8) New kit is pre-ordered No mucking about, you had your new kit pre-ordered and ready to wear for those pre-season Saturday afternoons when you're dragged around the shops by your other half. 9) You've memorised the fixture list On those cruel summer days and nights sans football, you've been studying the fixture list intently and can confidently say that yes, you are busy on Saturday, 3rd November - Reading at home, match. 10) You missed Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford's gold medals Why? Great Britain were losing on penalties in the Olympic football. http://www.talksport.co.uk/magazine/top-ten/120807/how-many-these-football-withdrawal-symptoms-are-you-suffering-178157? Have you been suffering football withdrawal symptoms? Confess all, here…
None of the above with the possible exception of #7 (unnecessary modding duties as opposed to player contracts though!). Too busy with day job and planning projects. Fact that the 'big one' for us starts just before the football season, has meant I've been so concerned with things going alright on the night that I've found myself dreading the thought of mid-August coming too soon! With all that's been going on at Rangers, can you believe that?!!!
Cerny, my old mucker! Back from the Triathlon in Hyde Park yesterday, great day out with the kids! How about you?
Only #7, but then I'm one of the people that absolutely love the Olympics, and primarily for the non-athletics sports. So there's not really been any time to feel desperately bored. I watch Handball once every four years, and find myself wondering why I don't take a more active interest. I enjoy watching the table tennis, sinnce I used to play a bit when I was younger, though never to anywhere ner their standard or speed. Beach volleyball is so much better to watch than regular volleyball, not for the uniforms (ok, not only for the uniforms) but it seems a far more physical sport in some ways because no players can be carried. It even looks good at 11pm under the lights when it's pissing down in Central London and you are watching USA 2nd team vs Brazil. The rowing is incredible, the cycling utterly amazing, and the archery and shooting has been strangely fascinating this year as well. We even won a gold in Mincing Horses yesterday. Not 'mincing' as in preparing for dog food or glue either, but as in 'prancing and poncing around in straight lines'. Go figure.... The season will start again soon, and there's been enough QPR activity throughout the summer to keep us all going. But I'm going to enjot the last few days of the Olympics first!
#2 for me...and thoroughly enjoyed it. Season review from our promotion year and MOTD from the last day of the season last year...remembering the highs, lows, nerves and relief. Amazing how you can still get a little nervous even when you clearly know the score...and my wife foolishly thought it would be 2 months of having her husbands undivided attention.
