... Until we return to the premier league? I know a lot depends on owners etc, but at the moment it doesn't appear like we be receiving any major investment. Whatever the owner situation, I think we are looking at 5 years minimum. Our squad is league 1 quality with only 1 or 2 capable of championship football. A major investment is needed if we reach the championship, otherwise we could come straight back down.
I think we will go up this year, it’s a leap of faith but I think we must and we will. After that is anyone’s guess, the Championship is about the most competitive league on the planet, has been for a few years, and unless we do indeed have a major takeover we would struggle to stay on it, let alone get out the other way. I don’t think we will be away as long as Leeds, but I think the club needs owners to build it from the bottom and make it sustainable at the next level before we can even think about Premier League. I’d say 5 years seems about right if I had to put a number on it.
We've never been outside the top flight for more than 6 years and we've already been out three seasons this spell. We've got another three to equal our longest ever stint outside the top flight which happened back in the late 50's and early 60's after our first ever relegation.
Unless there is serious investment and an ultra ambitious owner, at least 10 years...the level of the Championship is seriously good these days full of clubs with similar ambitions. We have to get out of this godforsaken league first tho.
Although I don't usually agree with it, spending our way out of this league is by far the best option, so we need to be able to do that, and if we are successful in doing so this season we're only one step away from the top flight Unfortunately, it's a rather large step, and it all depends on our owner, whoever that may be, having similar ambition to us and having the balls and vision to 'go for it' It's all 'ifs and buts' and with the right heirarchy we could 'consolidate' next year in The Championship and achieve our goal the season after . . . . so it's possible in three years Too ambitious or talking out of my arse The idea of identifying and nurturing young talent via the academy is what we'd all love to see, and this should be a part of the aforementioned vision, as a long term plan as well as achieving the first promotion as quickly as possible by whatever means at our disposal please log in to view this image
we really have no choice but to get out of this league this time or, i feel, we could be stuck here a good while with this wage structure idea. we HAVE to get into the championship while we still have a little clout left and then it is going to be staying there and improving steady...it has turned into a very competitive league due to relegated clubs being able to hold onto most of their players, we were just so badly run/unlucky/****e/any other excuse you care to use that we lost any and all momentum. IF we grab promotion this season then i hope the '5 year aim' most of us seem to be thinking about (hopefully quicker if a good owner happens to pop along)is more than possible and who knows, i might just be around long enough to witness it and as i am one of the fewer and fewer who can remember us winning a major trophy i would like to kick the bucket knowing my sons/grandsons will have a chance of seeing at least a little success.
