Ferguson won the title with the weakest United side we can remember. Moyes inherited the side, but lost the dressing room...though whether the dressing room was worth having is not clear, the players having already decided to load all the blame on the manager's shoulders. Van Gaal has the experience and has been given money, but seems to be unable to inspire players, having already decided to load all the blame on the players' shoulders. Consider one stat, ManUtd have not won a PL game since May 6th....okay, probably not many actual games, but when do you think was the last time that happened. Shaw has landed himself into a right mess, still there is always an upside Realistically, Van Gaal should turn things round...probably without doing a lot, just having enough money. Is he a great manager or is he a manager that can do well at a successful club. Good managers can get something out of dross...he doesn't seem like he is that kind of man. Can't see them winning anything this season.
All I can say is he had better turn it around and fast......especially after all the money united have spent. United are learning a lesson both Chelsea and City have had to learn...That is that reputations count for nothing these day's. To be fair they have a load of injuries, some to key players. They do have sulkers though and quite a few of their stars are clearly off form for what ever reason. They will get better as time goes on......
He will be given time because they can't change their manager again...but they are in for some pain. Couldn't happen to a nicer team.
Tbh I am bored of Utd being terrible already. I always thought I would love the time that this would happen, but it turns out that I don't hate Utd as much as I thought I did. Liverpool are far far far worse, them doing so well last year was probably the worst thing ever as their fans were deluded insufferable bell ends even more so than normal. So I hope Van Gaal does do well and Utd can become a force again so Liverpool can be kicked out of the top 4 once more and be fighting for 5th with Spurs.
I never liked Ferguson, but I have never disliked anyone as fast as I have disliked Van Gaal. He gets my goat and I don't even have to deal with him...what he does to people at the club I can only guess at.
Hmm, now you're begining to read like one of those media articles where they say that one team hasn't beaten another in 50 years, conveniently forgetting to mention that they've only played each other once during that time. But sure, all that you say is true. As far as Shaw is concerned [not that I care anymore] I remember that two seasons ago he was criticised for being unfit on his return to SFC [so he said] and during the close season last year he was much fitter because he knew he shouldn't let himself drop too far. This season he's done it again. It may be the result of him still growing, I don't know. Van Gaal will simply have to turn it around. ManU have been through this at least once before after losing an iconic manager, only this time they can spend their way out of trouble. They can write off this season, I think, unless they spend huge in January, and even then it will probably be too late. I suspect Europa is the best they can hope for, unless all the top teams have a big drop in form together, and that isn't going to happen. Also realistically, there are too many things wrong at ManU for them to suddenly come good.
Nothing against Utd, or their supporters, a significant percentage of whom do actually come from Manchester. But i'm enjoying their current predicament enormously.
To answer the question: at least two seasons. Think he'll be given a ton of money to spend next summer as well, and it'll be his squad he's building. I think he'll bring success back to them, but it will take years.
15 months. If the disgraceful amount of money he's already spent doesn't work by the start of next season, he's out by next Christmas. Corporations like the one he works for can't justify spending all that money and not getting a result. I suspect we'll be able to finish above them this season as they are showing no signs at all of gelling, so he'll have his work cut out. Vin
Agree with this. Too much dross at the club right now and a lot of changes required to play van Gaal's system. Will take him 2 years and may need a different backroom team. He seems like an easily dislikable chap to me too.
Until this time next season. The only exception would be if a REALLY good manager became available soon and VG was overseeing a mega MELTDOWN at united. Seriously, who would they employ/steal if VG was sacked in the next few weeks? Ryan Giggs your time has come.
