Ok, we have the joint top scorer in the Premier League. He can score goals with his head and his feet. He likes to put himself about a bit. Do you think the big clubs will come knocking on the door come January 1st with a shedful of cash? Or can we keep him until the end of the season or beyond?
I dont know but i hope we can keep him for a couple of seasons at least.....There are not that many clubs that can really come in for him and i think they wont make a bid until the season is over anyway is my guess......That is the problem that we will always have im afraid.....the minute we unearth a gem the big clubs take notice.....the good thing is we make millions out of them to ease the pain if they leave......
Some of the new guys signed 3 year deals, Laudrup signed a 2 year deal. Could be fun at he end of next season! However, there will be other things to worry about before then.
We should be looking to extend Laudrup towards the end of this season and then start negotiating extensions for those players that look like they belong and can carry us forward. Michu is definitely one of them at this point.
Most good players dont like signing contract extensions as they like to be in control of their own destiny. Those who do tend to have a buy out clause inserted to make sure that if a big club comes calling then they have the choice and not the club, Just like in Joe allen's case....Sadly the days of the clubs in sole control of the players contracts are no more and are virtually worthless bits of paper
Maybe H.Jenkins has added a minimum compensation figure in Laudrups contract, to be met by any big clubs that may come in for him while he`s still under contract with us ? similar to rogers, also for the players as with Joe Allens £15m release deal ?
Laudrup is key for me, if he does well (laudrup) then i beleive alot of the spanish players will be happy to play for him unless a top 5 club comes calling, Michu is a strange one though, he had chances to leave his club a fw years ago when they were in the spanish second division, but he decided to stay and remain loyal to the club and fans...i think that was michu anyway !! Its not even 10 games into the season but i beleive Laudrups signings will be key to our survival namely being Michu, chico,Ki and pablo if we get relegated Laudrup would probably walk away and the signings he made would want to leave aswell, Laudrup really is key to our success IMO its the first time we have a manager that can really attract players who would make a difference to a team like ours, i think the name Laudrup carrries far more weight around europe than we realise and i hope it can make the difference to us in the transfer market in January. Of course players want big wages these days but for us to sign the likes of pablo and michu i beleive we are in the 25k a week bracket which is a hefty lump of cash when you consider what players earn in the european leagues. If Laudrup keeps us up and enjoys the job i see both staying for a bit longer, Laudrup has always stated his ambition is to be a good coach and not to be motivated by being at a large club ala rodgers, i guess he has done all that as a player and he understands that having to win EVERY week will bring a pressure he doesnt really need, here at the swans he only needs to win every OTHER week!!...
please log in to view this image ..Excuse me Norway! But I like winning every week!..................... please log in to view this image
me too Dragon!.. its not part of the job requirement here though, as Brenden is finding out for himself at Liverpool ..
True very true, can't argue with that, must say how pleasant it has been on here, this last week or so, actually discussing footy!................
Didn't somebody post last week that Laudrup and his staff truly appreciate the nature of the opportunity we have given them and are really motivated to be successful. If true, ML is not going to walk anywhere as long as he sees a path forward and we stand by him. The players will follow suit. We are eight games into the season yet just 4 points out of fourth place - it's all to play for and a point here or there over the last few games or a goal here or there and we'd be up there tucked in behind Everton or alongside them. Lets be optimistic. There's a lot to be optimistic about.
