I got back on about 65 minutes, and from then til the final whistle Peterborough were camped in Ipswich's half.

So I guess it's possible but it sounds ridiculous.

According to the Sunday Mirror, it was closer to 65%-35%. I really don't see how a team could have 90% of possession over an entire game, unless the BBC's start was mistakenly referring to one half.
 
I believe there are two main sources of possession stats - Opta and the Press Association.

The old way of doing the possession stats is with something akin to a chess clock. Dual stopwatches that are switched over when a button is pressed. Opta's website says they have stopped doing this because it is prone to inaccuracy if the inputter loses concentration. They now time-log passes, shots, throw-ins, etc. and use a computer calculation to work out a possession stat, plus corners, shots on/shots off. All from a single set of inputs.

So we can expect at least two different stats. I believe the BBC use the Press Association but I couldn't find any information on how the PA currently do their possession stats.
