How is Famara Diedhiou getting on ever since leaving Bristol City?
Starting out in the depths of French football with the likes of ASM Belfort, Epinal, and Gazélec Ajaccio, Famara Diedhiou reached the second-tier in France aged 21.

Joining Gazélec Ajaccio in the summer of 2014, Diedhiou went on to make his debut in early August, before opening his account for the Ligue 2 outfit later that month.

Midway through that season, the towering forward joined Clermont-Foot on loan, who were operating in the same division as his parent club at the time.

Diedhiou netted twice in 14 games with his new side, who eventually took him on temporarily for the season after.

This was a much more productive spell for the forward, with Diedhiou scoring 22 times in 37 games.

Alerting the higher division with an excellent goalscoring record that season, Ligue 1 club Angers paid just shy of £1.4 million for the front man’s services.

He proceeded to score eight times in 31 games in his debut season at top-flight level, with Bristol City then swooping in ahead of the 2017/18 campaign with a £5.3 million offer.

Diedhiou netted 13 Championship goals in his first season in England, reaching that same total the following campaign.

He then managed one lower the next season, with the 2020/21 campaign proving to be his lowest yet with a total of eight.

In the summer, the 28-year-old joined Turkish club Alanyaspor, scoring twice in his opening seven matches.

On the international stage, Diedhiou has scored five times in 10 games for Senegal, with the latest goals coming from a hat-trick in an African Cup of Nations qualifier against Eswatini.

Not as bad a mistake as Wells, at least he was our top scorer several years, and player of the season, whereas Wells, we’ll I’ll let you fill in the rest …

Not as many as Fam had in previous seasons though.

The mistake with Fam was not selling before his contract ran out. What we paid was ok for a decent championship striker, which is what he was.

At the end they didn’t I agree, but we didn’t even try before hand, we ran his contract down. We could have at least tried to sell him.

I'm sorry but how would that actually work?, the football world knew he was available and it would appear our only offer was a swap for Assombalonga a player who ended up at another ****ty Turkish club, I think it's a case of nobody thought he was good enough and pretty much from January onwards he proved that conclusively.

In the end his wage demands were too high especially in the pandemic, I’m not convinced they tried to sell him before the pandemic they offered him the best deal ever offered to a city player apparently, which he refused wanting more. My suspicion is he thought someone would offer him more, and if it wasn’t for the pandemic maybe someone may have done.

I don't believe the story that we offered anything like was being reported, I think that was for public consumption, if they did then the people who made that decision are more stupid than I ever could imagine possible, IMHO we dodged a very expensive bullet.

I think I am going to be out on a lonely limb here, I think Fammy was a gent, he served out and honoured his contract, he didn't exactly hit the heights for us but he was consistent and was our top scorer, I think he was a top man as an individual and his ending with us was not totally of his making, good luck to him, the people that handled, bought and allowed his contract to end him have all left our club, so let's march on.

I liked him, but his time had come, I think letting him go was the right decision, ideally we’d have got something for him though.
