Sky and BT have been given the right to cover the next three seasons of Premier League football. We all know how the coverage of football has improved drastically since Sky began broadcasting live football to those with the dish. Now BT have staked a claim, and are going to join in with covering Premiership matches. They say that they have spent billions on fibre broadband and are going to start a new football focused channel for us sport's fans. Will BT be cheaper for us to watch and of a lower quality by comparison? Or will they surprise us and give us top quality coverage with maybe a new slant on the game, and a new format? I am sure that there are many who will be unsure of the standard that BT will offer but any competition in my eyes is better than none. Let us hope that they don't raid the BBC for presenters and commentators. The thought that I will be able to watch on my laptop does appeal though, with both companies adding broadband broadcasts.
Is there a new rule on this site, that we're not allowed to speculate? Because I must have missed that memo. Back to topic, not sure, but remaining in the EPL after the coming season will be the most lucrative time to do so. Go Saints.
Ok I'll speculate: It could be very good It might be good it might be OK It might be disappointing It might be absolute crap Take your pick.
I am hoping that it works out well for them because then they might offer stiffer competition to the Aussies relentless march to complete coverage monopoly.
Just a quick amendment SFC4BAG and I made exactly the same mistake yesterday, that the new deal doesn't come in unto 2013-14. I would guess that they face a tough task trying to sign up ordinary punters to a new channel at the moment and most of the big money will be made from pubs and the like. Or they could take a completely different angle and try to push a paid online service. As long as we're still there, I'll be happy.
When did BT do anything other than use their muscle to grind those who have no choice but to use their overpriced telephone lines into the ground?
That is a good point but if they do decide to flex their muscles to get a piece of the pie they may at least in the short term keep the prices down. QWERTY I had noticed the timing but the question still remains. All that it means is that they have time to get there act together.
