I was supposed to go to that game but I seem to remember we may have lost the week before or we got drunk the night before and never went. Always remember listening to Denis Law's bias punditry with that classic (on the fourth goal) "he was lucky it came off the post"
It's my one and only to trip to Old Trafford, it was one of those pinch yourself moments. Definitely in my top couple of games I've ever seen.
I was in Manchester visiting my in-laws. No ticket for the game. I watched it on TV sitting amongst 50 United fans (inc. my father-in-law) at Altrincham Sports & Social club. They were very quiet afterwards.
Ow!!! Closest I've come to one of those was when Danny Dichio scored an absolute beauty away at Wolves I was in their end, siting on my hands... biting my lip!!
Reminds me of our 0-2 win at Highbury in 84 (I think). I was with some arsenal friends in the North Bank and the unlikely happened. When the first goal went in, I got excited (and given some polite advice). When Ian Stewart got the second (30 yarder, top corner) I nearly couldn’t contain myself. I recall muttering “offside, surely?” And did everything not to grin and cheer all the way back to the tube. It was so quiet in the Notth Bank when we scored, it was unreal.
I went to an everton game with a load of everton season ticket holders when we beat them 5 3 I think Les scored 3 and spent the rest of the game trying to get sent off I think they were so disappointed with their own performance they let me get away with mine They kept saying bag of ****e which I think was a TV show catchphrase at the time
