Stewart Downing proved some doubters wrong today, or began to. He gave pace, width, energy, determination, put some awesome balls in the box and took a neat penalty. More of that please Stewie. Very well done to him.

He played v well and I hope it will give him confidence and his team mates confidence in him as well as removing some of the weight from his shoulders with regards his transfer fee and fans expectation... Downing was great today, he took on his man and beat him 8/10s of the time. When he was on the right he did the same, only criticism is his cross didn't beat the first man enough but he did put in some decent crosses but Carroll was outnumbered most of the match and their really wasn't enough support for the both of them. Let's hope he can push on from here because he could be vital for even more success this season as he's the sort of player we've been calling out for so far this season.
