Yes we know he's very good, but just how highly do you rate him compared to goal keepers of the past? Just a bit of fun, try and put these in order of preference..Or even just top 3 if you can't be arsed. Vito Manonne Keiron Westwood Simon Mignolet Craig Gordon Tommy Sorensen Lionel Perez Alec Chamberlain Tony Norman Iain Hesford Chris Turner Barry Siddall Monty.
Good post fella. We've been blessed with some mighty fine keepers over time, so this is a very tough call. Vito needs to maintain his performance levels, and improve, over a couple more seasons before he gets into the top 3. I think he could though. Mine would be: Monty TommyGun Turner Perez gets a special award for mad entertainer.
I vaguely remember that Turner was a cracking g/k, First one i would have seen would have been Siddall, although can't remember that much about him, but on what i've read he also was canny. Monty, i can only go off the old footage, so no suprises he would be top for anyone who seen him.
Turner went to ManUre after us, which says a lot. He was very good. My note on Monty is based on video footage and his legendary status, but you don't get that kind of status without being very special. 73 aside. Siddall i don't recall. Too young to really remember those days, Stan Cummins and Co. Some our our elder brethren would know more.
Tony Noman was the first Sunderland keeper I remember seeing on tv and my bbrother idolised him, never took that green hummel keeper top off. For me though Mignolet Sorenson Mannone
Monty Tommy Turner Gordon Mig Siddall 'Manone Westwood Norman Chamberlain Perez Besford I think that's about fare
Who's this Bart you speak of Monty Sorensen Mignolet/Vito Manonne Craig Gordon/Chris Turner Keiron Westwood Tony Norman Lionel Perez Alec Chamberlain Iain Hesford Barry Siddall IMO
1/ Monty 2/ Sorensen 3/ Turner I think if he stays long enough Mannone will be in top three. The life of a goalkeeper to me was summed up in 1973. I was at Maine Road when Monty punched Summerbee's corner into his own net. Couple of months later was at Wembley to see him produce the greatest double save of all time.....The nature of the job to what happened with Mannone at City recently comes with the territory but I think he is one hell of a keeper
Bloody hell, how could we forget the Estonian Herman. he couldn't not head a ball the size of his noggin. cracking finish mind.
