JM ended our 50-year run without a title. Could he win the league at: 1. Spurs after 51 years 2. Liverpool after 22 years 3. Both 4. Neither
Depends, if you mean with their current squads, I would have to say no. We had already had a £100m+ cash injection that Ranieiri had spent the season before Jose came and had finished as league runners up. Plus we then signed Drogba, Robben and Petr Cech. If he was given the Liverpool squad that Benitez managed (ie A gerrard in his prime, Xabi Alonso, Torres etc) then yes. Or if he was given the Spurs squad that finished 4th in 2010 then yes
I'd say no because he'd need 100 million at each club to make them competative enough. If anyone can, Jose can but he's 'only' a great manager not a great magician.
not with the current direction of both clubs he would need to bring in a few players of his own and would likely demand full control over the clubs transfer dealing something neither Henry or Levy will give him if they did Jose would turn either club into serious contenders with in a year or 2 .
Jose could easily have won it with Liverpool with the funds Houllier and Benitez had available to them. As for Spurs I'm not sure. You can't polish a turd But seriously though Spurs would need major investment, Redknapp overachieved at that club
Interesting thread. But I think the more interesting question would be, "do Spurs need The Special One to win the EPL?" And I'd have to say "no" to that question. We're quite capable of doing it without him. When? That's a different question, of course. The question I would put to you Chelsea boys is, do you honestly believe you can win the EPL with RDM?
We are a CM and two strikers light... so unless we are very lucky with injuries and form I don't think we will. I guess we can though. But I think if we can get another striker in Jan, 80 points and third place is a reasonable target plus another good run in the Cup and CL. Every season we do well in CL makes the club stronger: QFs winners whatever
Jose could win the title at both clubs but he would require that £100m from their owner to spend improving those squads.
He also didn't have to compete with City, Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal in the portuguese league. He'd need 100 million to make Liverpool and Spurs title contenders now. Imagine if Liverpool had of had Jose instead of Dalglish. Liverpool have spent a lot of money since they sold Torres on mostly dross. Jose would have them in the top 4 by now with that money.
I'm not talking about the Portuguese league. I'm talking about the European successes where he was making unknown players into European Champions. The likes of Deco, Benni McCarthy, Maniche, Ricardo Carvalho etc. he proved there that he can make an average team into a great one without spending a lot of money.
