How do you think other clubs would get on if they played in the premier league, the greatest league in the world and would they do better than saints. I have selected a few clubs from other leagues. One by one substitute that team in the league for let's say Norwich and estimate the position they would finish, 1-20, and if that would be higher or lower as to where you think saints would finish. Most are Europa or champion league teams, would they still qualify if they played in EPL. Celtic Vitesse Feyenoord Bordeaux Napoli Borussia Dortmund Sampdoria Atletico Madrid Benfica Paris Saint Germain Juventus Galatasaray Barcelona Basel Young boys L A Galaxy Feel free to add any others.
I have always felt that Celtic would never be a force in the Premier League. Big club of course but I would say they are about upper championship/ lower premker league level. They would be around 16th I reckon.
Vitesse and Feyenoord are about Leicester/sunderland/villa level i would say. Maybe a little lower for Vitesse.
If Celtic were to join the PL they would be a force imo. Give a club that size tv money n they would be right up there
Agreed, there current team might be lower level premier league, but that would be short lived with the resources at their disposal. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest Barca would win the league
Barca, PSG, Juve, and AM would probably be in the top 6. Leaving not much space for an English club to qualify for Europe
The only thing stopping Celtic is money. They were arguably the biggest club in the UK, at one or two moments in history. If they were allowed into the English league (the idea was vetoed by PL clubs back in the noughties) they'd struggle initially. However, given something around 5 years to establish themselves, with an inevitable change to billionaire ownership, I think they'd challenge for top 4 eventually.
And not many PL teams would fancy making the trip to Glasgow, with the somewhat hostile atmosphere at Celtic Park.
I think Celtic would have been around Europa League level at the turn of the millennium but the financial chasm between them and the Premier League has widened since and their current team would struggle. If they ever got into the Premier League they'd become a huge club.
I think that the Premier League has been really poor the last few seasons, and is another possible contributing factor to how well we did last season. Most defences were dreadful, so could be pressurised into making a mistake while at the other end we were solid and organised, unlike all other teams except Chelsea, which allowed us to win so many 1-0 games. Therefore teams with superior ability to keep possession like Atletico, Barcelona, Benfica and Juventus would all be capable of top four finishes. Even teams like Basel, Dortmund and Napoli would clearly be able to out do Tottenham and Liverpool just because of their use of possession. In fact only Chelsea and perhaps Arsenal would finish in the top 6 with these sides. However, despite this there are no really poor sides in the Premiership and the competitiveness created by significant wealth over other divisions would mean lesser Premier League sides would have an advantage over the resources of Celtic, Vitesse, Feyenoord who would be Championship level at best. Nevertheless if these sides had a few years gaining the money that Premier League sides garner then they could be competitive but if you put them in at these stage they would be relegated purely for financial disadvantages. This is another reason why teams like Bordeaux and Young Boys would struggle. Top 4: Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Benfica and Juventus ( all better than English teams with the possible exception of Chelsea and Arsenal) Top 8: Napoli, Borussia Dortmund, Basel, Paris Saint Germain (All better than Spurs, Liverpool etc, perhaps better than the two Manchester clubs currently too) Bottom eight: Sampdoria, Bordeaux, Galatasaray, Young boys Championship: Celtic, Vitesse, Feyenoord, L A Galaxy
