Ok how far do you think we could progress if we where in the champions league this season with our best 11 playing? I'm not concerned with squad size, rotating players, Europa league or any other league or cup competitions. My view is with a bit of luck we could of made it through to the last 16 of the draw.. Dam how do I add a poll after posting?
You can't I'm afraid. The best thing us to post the thread again, and make it a poll (you'll see the option down in the bottom half of the screen). I'll merge this to it later as I'm just off out (unless one of the other mods can kindly do this please?).
Yes maybe it's optmistic but most premier league clubs should get past the group stage and if you get a lucky draw.
This is getting a bit carried away but IF we were in group stage I would say 3rd at absolute best. Let's not start getting deluded and setting ourselves up for a fall...
Crikey..! First no Jose, and now badly let down by a less than positive predicted outcome of Southampton's venture into the CL. I tell you, Fran, I wouldn't say such things.
Let's see how we do against the supposedly bigger clubs in league soon enought. If we can beat them why not anyone else? So if we do qualify what would be our next 5 year target? Win the league or CL...
You know posts you've read in the past where someone on your forum has been over to a rival one and come back and said, bloody hell, you should read what they're writing over at that forum. What a load of jerk-offs they are [and other such unsavoury descriptions]. Well, we are that forum, and this is that thread. I thought I'd write that before anyone comes along here from another forum. We know what we're doing. We're in training, OK..?
Chelsea won the tournament when they were playing badly. Liverpool won it when they forgot what football was for 45 minutes. Man Utd won it when they gave their opposition 90 minutes to score as many as they could first. They won it again when 2 English teams decided to put some effort in. How hard can it be? They all ought to take the CL a bit more seriously and then English clubs would win it every year In the meantime lets concentrate on the more prestigious trophy of Arsenal's 4th place.
Spirit can only take you so far. The squad we have would not be big enough to tackle the PL, CL and 2 domestic cups (even if not taken seriously) on the side as well as most of our first 11 being in international squads. So unless we get more depth like others I'd see no better than 3rd depending on the group. Then again who the hell expected Costa Rica and Uruguay to go through over Italy and England in the WC? Who expected Southampton to be 2nd over 10 games in? This is why we love football.
