The claims by people on the BBC Sportsday feed that we can win the Europa League are PROBABLY a bit much, especially if Spurs stay in it, but can we go far without affecting our league form? I'd be happy to put a second string team out in the League Cup.
It would be surely a story too far to think that in our 101st year, we go to the spiritual home of Swansea's geatest ever footballer for Swansea's greatest ever occasion ..... surely not!!
Getafe was a VERY average team, and were 2½ minutes from beating Bayern Munich in the quarter finals...
Far too early to say , without seeing the rest of the opposition , not forgetting the Champion's league teams have still yet to enter and how the squad will stand up to the rigours of the season but one things for sure we'll give it our best shot. to be in this competition doesn't come around too often(if at all) so lets make the most of it
I'm sure any team currently in the Europa League would brush FC Kobenhavn aside quite easily. Now Brondby, well that would be a different story.
I too think we should be keeping our feet on the ground, but don't forget folks... even though this Valencia team is poor there are so many bigger clubs casting a weary eye at our club and can sense their is potentially going to be some blood drawn in any encounter they may end up having with us. Whilst the Spanish are saying Valencia sucked, they have been left a little breathless at their first face to face meeting in a competitive match. They seem to be saying their are two sides to everygame and it matters not if one club doesn't turn up on the other day, what matters is that the other club performs... and that we did with style.
Laudrup loves the European competitions, so you all had better believe he is not going to take his eye off the prize, if all goes to plan, we will go the distance!................
Can't see us winning this competition but we all said that about the League Cup. Anything can happen but if we get through then Spurs will be a huge stumbling block.
The advantage we have over European sides is that none of them know what we're about, much like a lot of the 'big' teams in our first PL season. Well until last night. Valencia were shell shocked and that will happen to a lot of the teams in this competition who play us. After last night I don't think the group stages will be much of a problem. Unbelievable as that sounds. I'm putting money on us reaching the final.
Can we play another "English" team in the next round? Just checked Wiki - we can't. But can from last 16 onwards.
If we can keep playing the way we have I can see us getting to the quarters. After that anything is possible
I think you can go a long way for sure. I have seen a bit of Russian football over the years and while it will be hard out there, I could se you pick up at least 4 points off them. Coupled with yesterday's performance and something out of FC Gallen, you should be Ok for the next stages. If you get Frankfurt, I shall be more than happy to give any advice on getting here and getting around the place......Eintracht are looking good at the moment too. BTW, someone was talking about travelling to Krasnodar and mentioned Aeroflot as the cheapest airline. Anyone going should look at Transaero and S7 too.
Right this would be nice. Win the Europa Cup then beat Barca or Real Madrid in the European Super cup. We can dream!!!!!!
