On current form ADM is not even in our best 11. So how do we fit him in? Or if we got a bid of >£50m should we take it and may be consider Pogba ?
Right now Young is taking his spot and playing well and deserves to start. But here's the thing. Do I believe that Young is more likely to be a one season wonder and return to mediocrity next season while Di Maria is likely to step up in his second season and go on to be consistently better? As they say form is temporary and class is permanent and although Young is without doubt our most improved player this season, come August the purple patch for both him and ADM will be over.
At the moment, we don't. He stays as sub with exactly the same front four as the previous two games. If, as did seem possible, Young has tweaked a hamstring again (or did I imagine that?), then he could slot in nicely on the left which is where he has/will always play better. At the moment though none deserve to be dropped to accommodate him.
You play Di Maria. An out of form Di Maria creates 50 chances, assists 10 goals and scores a couple himself. An in form Young (enjoyed him this season) assists 2 and scores 1.
Really? I must have missed something. Like how he deserves to elbow someone else out of a winning team.
Well Di Maria did contribute to that win in all fairness by doing exactly what we paid for. Hes far more likely to do that in every game than Young. Of course we could drop Di Maria, smash his confidence and sell at a loss while we watvh Young revert back to his normal self soon enough. Sounds like a hell of a plan tbh.
Forgive me for not giving a **** about stats, I base my assessment on what I see. None of Young, Fellaini or Mata deserve to be dropped so on that basis Di Maria has to now wait for his chance after he got himself sent off and suspended. Him not being in the side is entirely his own fault. I'm not star struck so I really couldn't give a toss on how much he cost and whether he was in a world 11 playing for another club in a different year.
Play ADM. He has arrived at OT from a side where his name was probably first on the team sheet for most games of the season only to find that the physical nature and speed of the PL is not what it seemed on Spanish TV. Add to that the considerable family upheaval in moving to the UK (and the burglary at his house) and it is no wonder he is taking time to settle. I would like him to stay and have a full pre-season and then make a proper impression on what will hopefully be a more dynamic side for 2015/16 - a side that will bettter suit his style of play
First things first. We play Aston Villa. Playing Young against his old club is a no-brainer. Secondly dont change a winning side with players playing on form. Does that mean Di Maria is sh1t? Not at all. Do I think he'll be less frustrated with Herrera and Mata around him. Ofcourse! But as the saying goes, if it aint broke don't fix it
This thread should be called, How do you solve a problem like Di Maria? You missed a trick there Christian
I've been underwhelmed but the stats seem to suggest that he knows how to deliver a key pass even when he's underperforming. I'd definitely give him another season and at no point during that season would I play him anywhere other than as a left or right sided midfielder/attacker ie not as a striker or off the striker or any of that Rodgers bollox.
We wiat until he comes back for pre-season. If he returns and says he is unhappy and wants to leave, we sell at the best price we can. If he comes back willing to do his best to settle in and keep working, we do everything we can to help him. As someone said, form is temporary class is permanent. One good season does not make a world class star so, by the same token, one offish season does not make a dud.
How do you solve a problem like Di Maria? How do you catch a cloud and pin it down? How do you find a word that means Di Maria? A flibbertigibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!
