Well, I will come to that but first, it was like being at a proper football match yesterday, do you understand what I mean?

I watch a lot of football and over the years I have seen proper games, some they win, some they lose but Sunderland, well it was never like that.

We lost or drew and sometimes we won but it was always a by the skin of your teeth feeling, yesterday was different somehow, cant explain it but there you go.

Lots of good things yesterday again and remember its only been 4 games, same squad, still no real goalscorer and still with injuries, its easy to forget that.

O'Shea had his best game for me, once he moved to CB, I just don't think he is our long term RB.

Gardner looked good to me, a player who can pick out a pass and that was at full back, no I don't want him there full time either.

Catts had a very good game IMO and after a shaky start we played well but, that old problem just will not go away, scoring goals.

I'm not bothered about the penalty, was yesterday but TBH it should not have mattered, we should have scored more goals then that decision would have been irrelevant.

That brings me to Mr Bendtner, some clever stuff outside the box, he worked harder yesterday, he was more of a team player yesterday but a goal scorer, no. He had his chances, we all saw him but does he have that killer instinct, if he does I missed it.

MON has had little option but to play him but with Wickham and Campbell coming back and the window a week away I think Mr Bendtners time will soon be up.

Not going to pull him to pieces because I don't think he does it on purpose but a 8 to 10 million pound striker, MON would be carried away by those men in white coats if he paid anything like that.

I read Wickham will be fit for the City game on Sunday so yesterday could well be Bendies swan song.

Just my opinion mind and looking at the fortune I have won over the weeks at Paddy Power you should know all about my expertise.

MARTIN O'NEILL: NICKLAS BENDTNER CAN BE THE REAL DEAL

MARTIN O’NEILL reckons Nicklas Bendtner can finally show why he rates himself so highly at Sunderland.

The striker, who joined the Black Cats on loan from Arsenal in the summer, is famed for his self-confidence and astonishingly declared last year that he is one of the best strikers in the world.

The Dane has done little to back up his bold claims but boss O’Neill feels that could all be about to change.

Bendtner repaid the Ulsterman’s faith after his arrest last week for an alleged car-wrecking spree with a goal in the vital 3-2 win away to QPR on Wednesday. O’Neill insisted: “He is a fine player in the making. I do accept that even though he is 23 you could probably still talk about him having potential. But there is a cause there at Sunderland and it’s up to Nicklas to want to be in that cause and I think he is. He has committed himself and I thought his performance against QPR was excellent. He can be a real proper player.”

Wes Brown bagged the Black Cats’ last-gasp winner against Rangers and hailed it as one of the most vital of his career. The former Manchester United centre-half, 32, has only netted five times – and had not scored since October 2008. But Brown is in no doubt how significant his first Sunderland strike could prove to be.

They were coasting with 25 minutes to go only to blow a two-goal lead before the defender struck in the dying moments to give O’Neill his first away win since replacing Steve Bruce three weeks ago.

They also leapfrogged QPR and put daylight between themselves and the relegation zone.

“It’s definitely one of the most important goals I’ve scored because it won us the game and got us up the table,” said Brown. “I only scored three in the Premier League for United against Newcastle, Liverpool and Blackburn but they were all a long time ago. “We let ourselves down when we went two-up and let them back in it. “We were doing so well but maybe we got a bit comfortable. “However, we kept our heads up, showed a lot of character and thoroughly deserved to win.”

Well I'm a big fan of Bendtner's (not as a person) I think most of us think he has got something. Just seems to have a bit of trouble getting it out. He says he's a striker and left Arsenal because he was played out wide????
He always seems to be on the wing.
He has the trickery of a winger but doesn't have the pace.
He has the opportunities to score goals but tries to be a winger and beat men when he doesn't need to.
He is as frustrating as almost every winger in the land (bar Adam Johnson) in the fact he has 1 good game in 4.

O'Shea, agreed (though Everton were piss poor up front (like us)
    Gardener agreed, looked OK,
    Catts OK.
Colback (Ok he scored) but felt like going home after 15 mins with Catts/Colback combo back in tandem. Just ****ing hate it....Thought we could have done with Mclean even at that early stage.
Horrible conditions but from Westwood's first scuffed clearence on 2/3 minutes we barely strung 1/2 passes together all game which was very dissapointing.

Ricco (Yes I know am so anti Richardson) failed to control a simple ball or pass a simple pass again 9 times out of every 10 yet again.

We need a full back (very badly) some creativity in the middle (very, very badly) and a goal scorer (very, very, very badly)

Webb is a ****ing idiot and should be struck off, we should have had 3 points but tbh I walked away very dissapointed with that yesterday

Rather than pay much for Bendtner, I'd pay back the £6-or-so million installments we've had from Villa for Bent. I know a lot of people wouldn't like Bent back - but I don't know anyone who wouldn't love his product back. As far as I'm concerned, we don't pay him to be a likeable character, we pay him for goals - and that lad delivers on it. No question about that. It won't happen, of course - we can't pay the wages for it.

Bendtner certainly put more effort in yesterday and is starting to be a centre forward rather than a winger, those are the positives. The negatives are I have just realised he does not have a left foot. Now I know it looks as if R Van Persie does not have a right foot but 'Nico' is no RvP. Bendtner had a couple of good chances to shoot yesterday but had to ever so slowly to get the ball on his right for a shot and the opportunity passed. MoN undoubtedly will have notices this yesterday and for a striker not to be able to shoot well with both feet, albeit with a 'favoured foot' is a big draw back and will mean 'Nico' will not be able convert perhaps up to half the chances that fall to him. My conclusion, is as with many other posters, Bendtner is not the answer to our striker problem.

Over to you Mssrs Short and MoN.

I have watched the 'pen' several times and yes Webb make the wrong call. Heaven help us if he is the best ref in the EPL,

Thought Bentdner was decent yday, some quality touches around the box and showed good strength to hold off Distan and Jagielka. If we were gonna spend 8 million on a Zamora I'd far rather have Bendy!

And in 7 replies we see the problem with being a footy fan, we all have opinions and rarly are they the same. Good job its only O'Neills that counts and we can trust him to get it right.

Well yes the answer is to make Bendtner play only with his left foot in training sessions and as with Bobby Charlton to practice practice practice using his left to shoot with.

Any striker worth their salt would have 'pulled the trigger' on at least two occasions yesterday. Bendtner had two great opportunity's to shoot and bottled it both times.

He may well have put in a shift yesterday (although with some of the comments flying his way yesterday I'm not so sure) but we're desperate for goals and it's an area he clearly lacks in.

    Thanks, but no thanks.

Im not sure what you are saying here. Are you saying we take Bent back? There is absolutely no way on gods earth this would happen due to the reception he has recieved from sunderland fans since his acrimonious departure. Also Villa would want a canny whack for him anyway.

If Bent does go we may have a sell on clause (we may not as well), but lets say its 20%, they sell him for 30 million to Liverpool (not saying he is worth that much but they will want a profit) we get 18 million of the 24 they owe us in 1 swoop, and then they have to pay us 6 million 20% of 30 million for the clause, we get 24 million + the 6million they already gave us = 30 million for a player we bought for 10-16 million 2 years ago.

all speculation of course but 30 million + 6 million for Gyan`s loan + whatever Short wants to put in = a canny transfer kitty for Jan/Summer.
