In percentage terms what are the chances of Argyle NOT being relegated this season? My own rating is only 40% I'm afraid taking into account past and current form, fixtures remaining and players/management abilities.
I'm ever the optimist aka so for me it could never be worse than 50/50. I am also a realist although I try hard not to be in my posts. The season for me revolves around the next month. If we have not managed to drag ourselves out of the bottom two my the end of January then to be honest I don't see us doing it. If we can convert results to a few wins and the others around us don't then I think we can stay up. Will we do it however. Well that is the £1m question which at present I have no honest answer to. I don't know what to make of this squad. They look a load better than they did 10 games ago but still we persist in the bottom 2. There is a huge chunk of me that says we can do it but a small part already that says no.
I'm inclined to also give us a 40% chance - especially after my son's comments after Saturday's match, HOWEVER like sensible I have to give 50% right now based on the fact we are at the right side of of the January window. Ask again on 1st Feb and I suspect you will get more accurate replies!
Need to wait for the transfer window to end..........then we will know the strength of the team............I wouldn't back Fletcher to dig us clear if it goes to the wire.
With all due respect plymborn we won't know by the strength of the squad. We will know by the results and the results of those around us. Signing a good player who doesn't become a good player for us will not achieve anything. We signed all sorts once upon a time and the paper squad looked pretty good but turned out to be crap.
We do need another goalscorer....,.,,......Chadwick will always have his share of injuries...........history has proven that..........thats why he was released last time...........didn't he nearly miss a whole season. If the strength of the squad doesn't tell us by the end of January............then it will be the strength of the manager...........Oh dear if that is the case we are in trouble.
We need to sign at least 2 half decent players for cover....then will be optimistic we can survive....if not it will be a battle to say the least!
We are still in the bottom 2 and it's clearly going to be a battle. Recent results have been better but they've been against teams in the bottom third and therefore, bluntly, they haven't been good enough. Our next run of games are against teams in or about the top half - indeed we don't get another 6-pointer until Barnet on 25 Feb. There will have to be a further improvement if we are to get out of the drop zone against that lot. Maybe with Purse returning, other suspensions dropping away and a couple of new signings in January that can be achieved but it's hard to be super-confident. Assuming Purse is a done deal and with Chadwick already signed, my priority would be to secure Hemmings for the rest of the season - he seems to regularly trouble defences in this division. PS Some of our immediate rivals: Dagenham & Redbridge, Bristol Rovers, Bradford are still in the FA Cup. Is it too unsporting to wish each of them a long and tiring run in that competition with the extra injuries & suspensions that are likely to go with it?
We need another striker! be unwise to rely on Chadwick,if he is injured or suspended we are buggered.Feeney is not going to get many goals on current form.Sutherland is good but on loan.Agree with others if we are in the bottom two come Feb it will be a mountain to climb. If i am optimistic chances are 50/50 of staying up.
Now we have signed Chadwick & Purse, feel a little more relaxed...hope they can encourage other players to come....COYG.
Yes I have sensible. I think that your prediction for the Crewe game is a good shout. Very optimistic. I think by the end of the transfer window we will have a better idea of our survival chances. Fingers crossed. COYG!
This may make you a bit more optimistic. If you make a mini-league of the current bottom 6, Argyle are in 2nd place with 10 points from 5 games, 3 of which have been played away from home. I'd be worried if I was a Bristol Rovers fan as they have already played the 5 teams below them at home and still have to travel to Hereford, Dag & Red, Northampton and Argyle. I think it will be two from Rovers, Northampton and Dagenham & Redbridge for the drop.
If devonF........... current form continued until the end of the season.........then everything looks great..............but we know that the current form for the next six games could turn everything upside.......and give us a completely different set of statistics............but as you say Bristol R's stats do look a little worrying for them and Northampton and Dag & Red hopefully will be below us in the final analysis.
I agree with hobo. The end of this transfer window and January will tell us a great deal. All we can do is cross everthing again and hope.
