OK. That crazy thread below, with the word 'realistic' confidently placed in it's title has made me ask this question that I've been wondering about for the last fortnight. How confident is anyone about any of the 150 names linked with us on here? I'm not ITK and don't have Sky Sports but it appears the 3 signings most confidently assumed to have been made are Diakite, Green and Nelson. What about all the others? Where were their names plucked from? I feel sorry for the poor chap who promised to keep a list (sorry I've forgotten your name.) Meanwhile, congratulations all. I thought I was a passionate R's fan. Compared to the emotion expressed over really dodgy sounding rumours I'm a wuss! So keep up the arguing but it just makes me smile most of the time. Anyone care to enlighten me?
You raise a really valid point Pete. I like this forum a lot so I tend to use it as the main source for QPR related 'intelligence'. So, when I checked the other sources I have used in the past (including the offish and the BBC) I was actually genuinely surprised to see no firm news on transfers whatsoever including the three 'confirmed' players. We were probably better off in the days when the first thing we knew about the team for the new season was on the back page of the first match day programme!
If it wasn't for the speculation there would be far fewer posting or visiting here. The close-season is purgatory for both fans and journos, one source of 'amusement' is the speculation. As long as you work on the principle that only one in a hundred articles have any truth in them you won't be too disappointed...
The offish isn't great for news. The latest report tells us how the grass is growing on the LR pitch, which I suppose is mildly more interesting than the rate the paint is drying on Tony Fernandes' new office. I usually look at Newsnow QPR. Nowhere is 100% but Newsnow is reasonably reliable Breaking news - Michael Laudrup to become Swansea's new manager...
The most amusing thing is to watch the journos make stories out of nothing. If someone on here states that they are an ITK (because their cousin's best mate's dog once cocked his leg outside LR) and makes a flippant wum remark that Michael Owen has been seen in Shepherds Bush, then within a day or two the journo writes it up as a true story and claims to have information from an "insider". Football journo ... the easiest job in the world. You can do it from you I-pad whilst sitting on the bog.
The ones that will happen are Diakite, Green, and an as-yet-unmentioned Centre-Back. The ones that are more than 50% are Nelsen and Johnson. The rest? Meh.... It's worth remembering two things: first that the transfer window isn't open, so nobody can sign anybody just yet unless they have been 'officially released' - not even Rob Green is a free agent until July 1st. and secondly, Aside from Diakite, the best business has been done already - locking guys like Mackie into a longer contract, keeping Clint and Derry for another year, and getting Faurlin fit for the new season. He'll be like a new signing.
The Internet is a strange place. You can monitor a rumour being circulated and picked up by all and sundry and gathering momentum especially if picked up by the allegedly more reliable sources eg the broadsheet newspapers. It is all speculation but keeps us happy and engaged. Historically, clubs do not annouce news when it will be overshadowed by events such as the Euro's so I am not expecting any big news until after the finals.
Well Sir I certainly don't have you on my fickle list ... you are IMO a good QPR supporter on here . SB73 is doing the list bless him.
Well said and if many on here would care to understand the point about July 1st like some of us have from the end of the season it would have stopped a lot of this rubbish ... still we all can look forward to the formations of the new players signed and how they will fit in or NOT... I believe that all the targets are only known by the club itself and all will become clear to those who wait. You may get a snippet out of an agent who is playing the dealing game in the press etc... that usually happens when **** breakdown in business. Today's football agents have to deal in an environment of complete secrecy or they wouldn't make any money
But will he be fit for the start? i didn't get that impression last I read - he was still doing recuperation.
Dead right Sooper. The other important thing is other than Derry, we don't have a recognised central defensive midfield player in our squad now available to start the season if Ale is still out, and he probably will start slowly anyway.
I think the above is true of ALL journos not just the football ones. For example, The Star yesterday had a front page photo of rioting Polish fans with the headline 'You are next !', indicating that they are preparing to attack English fans. The story was basically a re-telling of the Danny Dyer hooligan programme and quotes from an Engish fan (un-named of course) who was told that we were gonna be attacked,by a man on a plane (beats the usual 'man in a pub I suppose). Journos will if need be take a small snippet of info and blow it up into a sensational scoop 'cos that's what sells papers, and with the Internet EVERYONE can be a journo in their own bedroom. Personally I find the 'ITK'S' and speculation threads on this forum are mostly put on here by fans without an agenda (barring one poster now gone) and whilst not always accurate, they can help while away a somewhat boring close season.
I had an email from the club yesterday with the words "The transfer window is open" emblazoned across it.
Was that the one talking about the new till at the club shop, where you can get a temporary tattoo of the club crest slapped on your forearm with a wet sponge? It'd be the only officially open 'transfer window' I know about....
