When did Sir Alex or Pep turn us down? Pep turned you guys down as he thinks your club is a joke ( in some respects he would have a valid point ) and to suggest SAF turned us down is borderline moronic.
Despite failing at Real I can understand why he didn't want to be Sir David's assistant. He's much better off being the big fish in a small pond so Chelsea is ideal for him.

You will realise at the end of next season why we appointed Moyes, and the joke of a club Chelsea only had one manager to pick because no other top manager in the world wanted them. Also no one wanted Jose so they had to reignite their romance
