Ever since we signed Aaron it seems that the opposition players do nothing but use him as a climbing frame. It happens every game. Aaron goes to bring a ball down from the air but finds a 6 foot lump climbing all over is back. Does the referee see it? Probably. Does he do anything? No. How does this happen it's pathetic. I'm starting to think it's because he's small and can be a gobshite. It doesn't work both ways either, if any of our players do it (Mclean on Millwall keeper for example) they get a ticking off straight away. Another semi-related point. Some of the referees in this league are shocking. Did anybody see our Ref on Saturday blow his whistle for Millwall to pull back a free kick because they were pinching yards? They just took it anyway, so the ref changed his mind and let them play on. Surely this is refereeing 101, don't just let the players do what they want. Rant Over.
You're definitely right about Mclean, he's been getting a ****ty deal from ref's ever since he joined us. And the ref's this season have been the worst I can remember, as have the assistants, who can't seem to give a throw the right way even if it came off a player two feet away from them.
Yes and yes. Mclean gets manhandled every game, often. Ref's not interested. The ref actually had to be brought to task by the crowd during one such free kick incident on Saturday. Was going to let Millwall play on a few yards in advance, beyond halfway, with a few City players out of position. He only pulled them back once we screamed **** at him. To me, it was just laziness, like he couldn't be arsed. Well, it's not just about you being a lazy ****! The refs this year have been at best inconsistent, at worst ****ing turd. Happens every game. In the East corner, it's surprising how long it takes the linesman to raise his flag. Well, often it's when he's ****ing told to by people who can see what's happening.
In E3 where I sit we bring it up time and time again the amount of **** that he has to take in a lot of games. For some reason a lot of refs dont blow up no where near enough when Mcleans gets constantly battered..
at the end of the day the only thing that really matters is the result. if the Tigers win the game both Mclean and the tiger nation wont care a jot. well most of them wont. i have given up moaning about match officials. 95% of them dont have a clue. the latest howler being the lino in the first half on saturday. how on earth he could say Fryatt was offside is beyond belief. MF was way onside when the ball was played to him. a perfectly good goal was disallowed. buit these things are happening all over the country every week.
The referee's are just so so inconsistent. But yet again the referee's fail to notice every single time that there strikers climb all over ours, and the one time we did it we get booked. One good thing about Saturday's ref he only booked people when necessary.
I very rarely see a linesman put his flag up to indicate which way a throw is before the ref points. Even if the lino is in a much better position to make a decision on who it came off last 99 times out of 100 they will wait and see what the ref does and then just agree with him regardless. Also, slightly off topic but another **** lino decision was Fryatts offside goal on Saturday which was clearly onside. So clear that I even called it at the time yet the football league show applauded the "eagle eyed linesman" who spotted the offside...hang on a minute!
I think the incident the OP is referring to is worse than that. Our players that were out of position stayed where they were and took up positions ready for a quick freekick. The ref signalled to Millwall to move it back so our players relaxed and started getting back into their own positions expecting Millwall to have to move the ball back and reposition themselves. Insead they just took it where they were and the ref left them to it so they got a massive advantage from all our players being flat footed and not paying attention at the time.
The worst thing was that the ref was fully aware what happened, but when the Milwall player took it anyway he just saved his arm as if to say "Ah whatever." Have some authority ffs. Also no one has yet pointed out how ridiculous that McLean on the 'keeper 'foul' was. McLean stood waitingf for the ball with his eye totally fixed on it, didn't move a muscle, 'keeper ****s up his jump and lands on McLean, foul on the 'keeper. It didn't surprise me though, 99% of refs make that ****e decision nearly every time it happens.
That's the one. A truly awful awful decision. If the referee has no authority what's the point of having one at all.
Sadly, all this is purely down to the incompetence of referees and linesman these days. End of. The officials are always giving a keeper the benefit of the doubt over the attacker. Been happening all my life. As Gary Lineker said once, 'goalkeeprs are an over protected species'.
