Scoring goals is obviously pretty important, and key to winning games, but I've just been looking at their strikers there for last season:

Louis Saha - 7 goals in 22 apps
Jermaine Beckford - 8 goals in 32 apps
Magaye Gueye - 0 goals in 5 apps
Yakubu Aiyegbeni - 1 goal in 14 apps
Apostolos Vellios - 0 goals in 3 apps
Victor Anichebe - 0 goals in 15 apps

Now, no disrespect to Everton, but that's ****e. I think our strikeforce ****ing sucks but look at our tallys:

    Lovenkrands - 6 goals in 25 apps
Leon Best - 6 goals in 11 apps
    Ameobi - 6 goals in 28 apps
Nile Ranger - 0 goals in 24 apps (lol)
Andy Carroll - 11 goals in 19 apps while he was here

Even without Carroll, we scored more goals than Everton, so how have they got so high up the table? I mean all credit to them (and it's a big credit), they've found a way, but I just don't understand how. The only two explanations are that they have an amazing defence and kept tons of clean sheets, or their other players (such as midfielders and defenders) contributed heavily.

I'd rather be a Toon supporter than an Everton supporter.

Goodison is falling down apart from anything else.

They have a very good young manager who does very well on a small budget.

Moyes doesn't look that young to me.

Could be his ginger hair that makes him look old. They keep saying McLeish is a young manager but he looks as if he's had a hard paper round.

Cahill gets most of their goals.

Both of them, must be the whiskey diluting the water.

It only takes one goal to win a game. Although they may have scored less, they have probably conceded less too!

In (meagre) defence of Ranger, nearly all of his 24 appearances were brief substitutions, compared to Loven and Shola who typically had starts

They have a very good manager. And Tim Cahill.

On the young/old debate, Moyes looks like a testicle with a face.

Because they dont sell their top scoring centre midfielder and talisman to a Championship team as soon as a bid comes in.

Everton also have a better defence than us. No last minute equalisers for them

It makes me wonder how well they'd do with just one 15 goals a season striker on their books.

    Cancelled out by Nolan surely?

If we had Jagielka alongside Coloccini we'd be ahead of them. Our defence is ****e, that's what lets us down.

They have got an awesome midfield, just got a ****e FW part of their team.

Players like Bilyarletdineov would walk into our team I reckon and a few others who are constantly on the bench a la Seamus Colemen
