There was some speculation that Shelvey didn't deserve a place in the england team. He did ok although he was overshadowed by the United players. Should he now have a starting place?
No, should he ****. He shouldn't be anywhere near an England shirt. That said, I didn't watch the match but my opinion stands because he's so obviously a ****. Fits in well at his club though, he's amongst equals.
Get the feeling Liverpool fans see him as the new Gerrard but I recall Gerrard at his age was far better. Seems a bit average to me but thats based on very little, didnt watch the england game so cant comment. People say hes better than Cleverly but these people are scousers so its just bias like us saying Cleverly is better.
Comparing cleverley and Shelvey is like comparing cleverley Porsche with shelvey Kia. If Shelvey is now the key midfield player of the scousers, it shows how shockingly bad the scousers are! Gerrard is going downhill and is no longer up to it. Shelvey played ok but then it was against the worst team in the world..
Shelvey done alright. The lads a dick but he played okay, few good balls and added some dynamism alongside cleverly. Rather he got a place in the squad than Lampard/Gerrard but if he cant earn a starting spot at Liverpool (mid table team) then he shouldn't be getting called up when there are players in form playing for teams outside the top 4 who never get a look in.
Shelvey needs to be in a team of quality players for him to shine, otherwise he is wasted. He need to move to a bigger club like West Brom, then he will be a quality player
it comes to something when the whole of the scousers midfield is overshadowed by someone like Shelvey He is not even the ideal player for the system that tiki taka Rodgers wants to play. He looks he is just a poor man's version of Gerrard at his peak.
Gerrard at his peak still couldn't pass that well or play one touch technical football. Its not the type of player he is or has ever been. Simply being able to run and not give the ball away 6 times a match would make him a better player than Gerrard at the minute.
Shelvey is an excellent prospect. He's probably not quite consistently at the level that Cleverley is but he's quite a bit younger and looks to have more about him from a neutral's perspective.
A closet United fan. If you spend most of your time on the Liverpool board you probably won't have come across him.
