I know there's a feel good factor around the club after 2 wins out of 3 but if we lose this weekend and consequently lose ground to the others as a result, do you think our heads will drop somewhat or are the lads taking the viewpoint that anything gained this weekend would be a massive bonus since nothing is being expected of the team? Just fearful that after the great win last weekend, the boys may become deflated again if we lose and the momentum will be lost. Any thoughts?
Thanks to United the gap up to safety will only be 3 points if we lose and Blackburn win, but a 3 point gap will not be at all pleasant nevertheless, so a "shock" win for us would do very, very nicely!!
We all know that points are unlikely at OT but a spirited, quality showing will do a lot to maintain current morale. However, getting a right thumping will doubtless have the opposite effect and could dent our future prospects. Let's hope for a performance that asks a few more questions of United than Blackburn did last night - and concedes just the one goal maybe?!!
We need to target the games against West Brom, Swansea and Stoke. If we can get maximum points from these games we should be OK.
The way Blackburn, Wigan and especially Bolton are going now I really feel we need more than 9 points to survive myself. I think we will probably need at least 12 more points and 40 points total. So we need a win at United, or the very least a draw. Our record against the so called "weaker teams" has not been good, and there's no way we can bank on 9 points from WBA, Stoke and Swansea. They all will be very tough games, so for me we need to be aiming for 3 points from them all starting, Sunday.
I honestly can't see Villa getting to 40 points this season. If you guys, Bolton/Wigan/Blackburn all make it up that high, Villa will be in real trouble.
A good performance might get us something. We simply must play with no fear. Hard to do that against Utd i know, but we must give it a lash
This! If there is a PL game in which United maybe just a little complacent now it could be Sunday, seeing that they have opened a gap on City who have also a tougher game, on paper.
It wont be deflating unless all the other clubs win. Saturday will definitely be bonus points for us. Now if we dont beat Swansea.....
I just hope we dont get a tonking.Ive got a horrid feeling we will. Hope it doesnt effect confidence as we could be second from bottom and have a pants goal difference by sunday avo.Its a cruel game
'How damaging could this weekend be?' Just as damaging as last weekend could have been, and the next weekend could be and the next and the next and so on... Nothing will be decided until after the Stoke game at the earliest imo.
Look at the fixtures, Bolton is really the only ones who youd expect to get 3 points so it can only be considered bad if 2 teams win even if we lose.
A narrow defeat wouldn't be the end of the world. I think if we can perform as we did on Saturday with a similar formation we might just surprise them. I'm more worried about Swansea, they play on Friday so have a two day advantage over us to recover, especially if we run ourselves ragged at United...
I think it's up to the travelling fans, myself included, to encourage the team at Old Trafford and let them know that whatever the result we will support them to the end. Even if we do get beat comprehensively, our vocal support will tell them that we still believe in them, and hopefully it'll keep their confidence up going into huge games with Swansea and West Brom.
Its not just this weekend we need to consider. To stay up we need to get some kind of net return from our clutch of games against the top 4. IMO that is 4 points at least and I don't expect Spurs, Scum or City to be any easier that Utd. With that in mind anything less than a draw at Old Trafford will be a failure in the light of the challenge we are facing. Tough I know but that's where we find ourselves.
To beat us, Swansea must first enter the impassioned cauldron of Loftus Road Better teams than them have failed in that intimidating atmosphere We'll give 'em the famous Shepherd's Bush Welcome! (which strictly does not involve throwing things onto the pitch!)
"How damaging could this weekend be?" I'm rather worried about it. Not because we may lose to United but because, in so doing, we may exhaust ourselves and not be fully recovered in time to achieve the much more realistic target of 3 points against Swansea on Wednesday.
