I know a guy who is high up in the Sky football echelons and he tells me Sky are already preparing their bids for EPL football rights for, not the next round of TV EPL coverage, but the round after that, around 2020. He reckons Sky will give each EPL club £1billion before a ball is kicked. That sounds a lot to me but by 2020 it is more than feasible. How the **** can the OF and the SPL compete with that?

True Blue, Don't worry your wee head about that.
It is of very little of your concern as you support about 19 English clubs,
    and one SPL club.
So don't worry about your 5% football interest.

It's not feasable to simply hand £1billion to each club, that figure is ludicrous when you consider Sky cannot be guaranteed to make money out of that situation.

Sky's profits are down and at this time each club gets approx £20m per year so how the payment could rise from that to £1billion is beyond me, especially when their total income from overseas rights was £1.4billion last year. The Premiership is not in a position of strength to demand such a sum because they know only too well (as do Sky) that events have overtaken us as a recent court case shows.

    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/e...er-league-footie-on-the-cheap-86908-23466070/

A lot of Sky's income through the EPL comes from Pubs and clubs who pay astronomical amounts at this time and they are voting with their feet, if the payments increase by 500% or so, what's to keep them as Sky subscribers when there are cheaper ways of allowing their customers to watch the EPL?

In essence, you've made this up or your mate has.

Dead right Dev, True blue doesn't deserve an answer, However skye will be very wary of
making big commitments for the reasons you gave.
Also remember the wee woman, was she a landlady in Southampton or Portsmouth,
did she not win her case at the highest court in Europe giving her the right to show any match at anytime without paying any sub. to skye.
The WEPL could be facing difficult, very difficult times ahead.

We don't compete with the EPL. What would be the point in that?

We get what we get from broadcasters regardless of what else they spend their money on.

That stupid selfish woman won't get away with it. Sky have already found a way around the ruling. Do you really think they're just going to sit there and accept it. Their solution is something to do with each European country having it's own logo but I can't recall the exact details.
I'm just relaying what my mate said. Each EPL club to get £1billion.

Super hooper, you are exaggerating a bit. I support one championship team, one SPL team and a few EPL teams. I am a proper football supporter.

"The exclusivity agreement relating to transmission of football matches are contrary to European Union law. "[The] exclusivity rights in question have the effect of partitioning the internal market into quite separate national markets, something which constitutes a serious impairment of the freedom to provide services."
Premier League chiefs had already anticipated that the ruling would go against them to some extent. But insiders insisted this does not necessarily mean a drop in television income from mainland Europe, which is around £130million, or less than 10% of their total £1.4billion overseas rights deal.

How does it go from £1.4bn for total income on overseas rights to £1bn per club?

The overseas market is already at saturation point so it would be nigh on impossible to get anywhere near the income you are suggesting. It's ludicrous.

    Lay of the sauce.

DevAdvocate, 2020 is a long way off. They have made predictions on expected revenue streams and what they'll be paying the clubs apparently.
Think about where China and India could be in 8 years time and the potential for PPV and their vast populations.

Celtic need to leave Scotland and if sky are offering 1 billion to clubs then sky can put us in the EPL if they so wish

Scotlands future is amateur or part time football....that would be for the best

Man utd might get 75000 but most of their home games you could hear a pin drop , people are more interested in taking photos than watching the game, even the English fans were taken back by the recent old firm atmosphere

I'd love to see the business model which predicts such a huge growth in 8 years and If you think India and China (the 2 biggest consumers of pirated products in the world) would pay good money to see something they can get for free then you are even stupider than I thought.

So please stop posting this ****e on the Celtic board.

    True Blue.
You talk so much shoite, that it is amazing that you ever get out of the bogs.
There is absolutely no way that Skye, or any other company can get round their ruling. You really don't know what you are talking about.
More and more eastern Europeans, from Poland Lithunia Ukraine and other recently joined EU countries have millions and millions flooding
into the UK and Ireland, claiming benefits and then going back to their own Country and continue claiming benefits.
In Poland child benefit is less than 10 euroes a month. In Republic of Ireland it is more than 16 times that. Poles fly into Ireland have their
baby and collect child benefit. Mother and child go home, benefits have to be continued until 18. Irish government wanted review and they
were laughed at. You true brit, don't make me laugh, we are signed up members of Europe and they make the rules.

super, I'll take your word for that. Our nation is abused I know that. Sky have found a way around the ruling. I'm annoyed that I can't remember how. It will be a technology solution though. Sky will not be dictated to by the mickey mouse UEFA beuracrats.

Jacky, we're talking about predictions and 2020 which is a long way off. Think about before the EPL started. Nobody could have predicted the old English first division would become the biggest and richest league in the world. All I heard is that Sky are preparing to make another statement by giving each of the 20 EPL clubs £1 billion. It might be bollocks but that is what I was told Sky are budgeting for. One thing is clear: Total and utter world domination is what they're after.
