Obviously the leader of Ipswich Borough Council is a blatant Budgie Twat!

Has anybody got a phone number for Rent-A-Swampy? when they have finished at Dales farm perhaps they might want to pop in to Portman Rd!

Either that or take away all shower priviledges from Jimmy Bullard for a month, and buy a bike lock!

The first thing I would do is bulldoze that concrete monstrosity of shops all along St Matthews Street. It is an absolute eyesore and is a testament to the 1950s and 60s when these concrete boxes were thrown up all over the place. If the council dig their heals in then Mr Evans may decide to call their bluff and build a brand new stadium out of town! It isn't completely beyond the realms of possibility!

The ME stadium has a nice ring to it, he could get some revenue in by having some decent concerts during the summer and some fantastic conference facilities, then he could stick 2 fingers up to the council and tell them to get ****ed!

    Great idea Guru!

Where would he build it though? Somewhere on the A14?

I don't think the Council have a leg to stand on! They need Ipswich Town Football Club on that land because if Marcus Evans did decide to buy his own land and build a new purpose built stadium somewhere outside the borough the council would be completely screwed. With someone of his undoubted business acumen I wouldn't be surprised if he called their bluff especially if we were in the Premiership. £115k a year rent seems a reasonable sum but then to backdate it to 2004 is a scandal. Talk about ripping off the golden goose!

JWM I'd love to think that you're right that they dont have a leg to stand on, but I'm not so sure. Dont ask me to justify that - its just a hunch. As for calling their bluff, I'm not sure on that one either. How many millions do you reckon a developer would pay to turn that site into flats?

It's a one hit wonder though. How much trade does the club bring in to town when 20k are off to watch a match.

THEY need the club more than the club needs Ipswich Borough Council. They'd only go and spunk the money on topping up their expenses or on something stupid...

Who the **** is this independant ****-rod anyway. Got to be a budgie or col who? fan

Nay wonder they turned down ME’s offer of 100K for the freehold a couple of years back. Conniving hoody hugging bunch of we’re-going-to-strike-for-bigger-government-but-would-all-cry-about-capitalist-greed-if-the-private-sector-struck-for-smaller-government public sector pious Guardian reading twats.

I wonder if it’s ever occurred to them that they’re forever short of cash due to huge gearing because of decades of quasi-socialist over-spending.

I actually think you're all wrong and the council are well within their rights to backdate it to 2004 as a kind of **** Football tax.

i think the club should pay up, all other people and businesses have to pay the going rate, what makes itfc any different? the back dating does seem rather harsh though, but thats how the cookies are crumbling at the moment.
