How Bristol City's players compare across the Championship according to the stats
Opta data shows several areas where the areas of the team the Robins excel in.

Bristol City are likely to have to fend off several sharks as the summer progresses with several players outstanding for much of last season.

Bobby Reid is the obvious one with his 19 league strikes and seven assists making him the most potent player in the league.

And Joe Bryan isn't too far away. In fact statistics site WhoScored.com rate the leftback-cum-left winger as the best left-back in the division. Nobody could top Bryan's stats as he made the site's team of the season in a 4-3-3 formation.

Elsewhere Bobby Reid and Famara Diedhiou take the forward positions in City's most used formation this season.

The image above shows City's best team according to the site's stats for 2017-18, based upon some 200 raw stats captured during matches. So we had a look at how each position compares across the league.

Players were rated having played a minimum of 10 matches each.

    Goalkeeper
Frank Fielding was ranked as the 15th best goalkeeper overall, although there were two Fulham keepers (David Button and Marcus Bettinelli) above the former Blackburn stopper.

That might in part explain why City are looking for another keeper for next season, especially with Luke Steele having departed.

    Defence
At the back, Joe Bryan actually ranked as the fifth best defender in the league - chiefly from his high tackle and dribble stats. No wonder there are Premier League clubs sniffing around him.

At centre-back, Aden Flint came is as the eighth best in the league, then Nathan Baker as 37th, with Eros Pisano ranking as City's best right back and the 23rd best in the league.

Arguably this shows the areas that Bristol City most need to improve in. Top centre-backs were Curtis Davies, Shaun Morrison, Sol Bamba and Willy Boly.

Bruna Manga and Cyrus Christie were the best right-backs.

    Midfield
The best midfielders, unsurprisingly, were Tom Cairney, James Maddison and Jack Grealish.

City's midfielders were ranked as 28th - Josh Brownhill - and 31st - Marlon Pack.

Meanwhile Adama Traore, Joe Lolley and Robert Snodgrass ranked as the highest wide players, while the best-placed Robin was Callum O'Dowda at 16th.

    Attack
Both of the Robins' regular attackers were ranked highly: Reid came in at 10th and Diedhiou at 15th.

The best players in the front positions were Aleksandar Mitrovic, Atdhe Nuhui and Matt Smith. Kieffer Moore scored highly too.

Further evidence that Bristol City need to improve their back line and midfield?

I don't know how you would calculate it but it would be interesting to have some comparisons of LJ compared with other managers or head coaches in the Championship, would he be 9.1 or 6.4, I wonder?

That would depend on who was judging. If there was a poll across all managers, experts and pundits then I suspect he would rate quite highly. However if Bristol City FANS were included in the poll then that would drag the rating down somewhat <laugh>
